			OUR LEEPER-ARMSTRONG FAMILY
				CONNECTION

			Col. John Armstrong- Pioneer

  Lt. Col. John Armstrong of Tryon County, North Carolina was a veteran of
  the Revolutionary War. He was married to Mary Carroll, daughter of Samuel
  Carroll  (see wills in Charlotte, Mecklenburg County Courthouse Records)
			      Children
  Ann Armstrong married James 'Jessie' Alexander, August 29, 1769 and lived
  near Mt. Holly, North Carolina

  John Armstrong married Mary Dobbins, March 27, 1793 and had three children
       1- Priscilla Armstrong married Jonathan West, March 20, 1816
       2- Polly Armstrong married P. Fite, September 6, 1824.
       3- John Armstrong Jr. married Peggy Fite, March 27, 1828.

* Matthew Armstrong, son of John Armstrong and Mary Carroll was a veteran of
  Revolutionary War. He fought in the Battle of Kings Mt. and also the Battle
  at Cowpens. S.C. He married Margaret Shipley Sloan, widow of Capt Robert
  Sloan.Both are buried in Smith Cemetery, Belmont, Gaston County, North
  Carolina.
  Margaret Shipley and Robert Sloan had three children from their marriage.
       1- Margaret S. Sloan born       1774, died July 30, 1843 was married to
	  Isaac McKee on September 26, 1793.
       2- Robert Sloan Jr. married Ruth Beaty on February 14, 1800.
       3- Sarah Sloan married David Smith April 19, 1797.

* Matthew Armstrong was born        1762 and died June 21, 1838. He was married
  to Margaret Shipley Sloan who was born         and died May 27, 1829.
			     Children
  1- Polly Armstrong born    1784 and died April 19, 1807  (single)
  2- George Armstrong died at age two. He and Polly buried in Smith Cemetery.
* 3- Matthew Armstrong Jr. was born     1787 and died February 20, 1870. He was
  married on April 23, 1816 to Mary Mariner who was born      1788 and died
  March 23, 1870 (see seperate pages for this family line)

  4- John Armstrong married Nancy Clinton. He died in an accident at age thirty
     seven and is buried in Smith Cemetery, Belmont, North Carolina.
     Children
     1- Margaret Armstrong married Robert Smith on December 4, 1828.
     2- Andrew Armstrong went to live in Tennessee
     3- Johnny Armstrong married three times. First to Margaret Martin. There
        no children. Second to her sister Martha Martin and third to an orphan
        niece of the Martins that they had raised, Elaine Stewart.

	    George Armstrong married Margaret Ford
	    Jasper Armstrong married Alice Abernathy

	    Emily Armstrong- died young
	    Billy Armstrong- died young
