(43) R.L. Stowe Book There were two Andrew Leepers living in Belmont at the point. One was nicknamed Andy Dell because he had been a Yankee prisoner in Delaware during the Civil War. The other was called Andy Pike. It is known where his nickname came about. James Armstrong and John Armstrong received land grants in 1751 on the south fork of the Catawba River. They came to Pennsylvania from Ireland before settling here. John Armstrong married Mary Carroll and had three children: John, Ann and Matthew. John Armstrong died at 37 years of age from an accident. He was married to Nancy Clinton. They had two children. One named John was married three times Matthew Armstrong married Margaret Shipley Sloan the widow of Robort Sloan killed during the Revolutionary War. She had three children by Robert Sloan and seven children by Matthew Armstrong. They were John, Polly, Matthew Jr. Naomi, George, Samuel, Andrew. James Armstrong ??
