Attacking Third # 5 - Corners.

Corners. The attacking team has possession of the ball, and are in their prearranged positions for a corner kick. The defending team has 9 players in the penalty area for the corner and 1 player marking the kicker, and only 1 of the defending players is in a forward position. The attacking team has just 1 player marking the defender. Attacker 3 should be positioned on the edge of the attacking third. Should the defending team manage to play the ball out of the penalty area, the attacking team is well-positioned to be first to the ball anywhere in the attacking third of the field. If the defending team had brought back all 11 player for the corner kick, Attacker 2 would have gone forward for the corner,

Remember: A player can not be declared off-side by the referee if he/she receives the ball direct from a goal kick, a corner kick or a throw in.

Remember: 53% of all goals come from moves that start in the attacking third of the field.

Remember: Once the team has the ball in the attacking third of the field, the attacker must try to keep it there by making it as hard as possible for the defenders to clear the ball.
