'Retirement': Computer Programming and Techniques. Proficiency in PC and WIN95/98/XP & DOS troubleshooting. Several modern PC`s at my disposal, including a vintage home-built P166 soon to be rebuilt. Internet expertise with HTML Website design.  More recently, MS (Microsoft) Access Database design.

Statistician: Application of specially written computer programs for cost comparisons and time series analysis. Algorithm development.

Engineering: Mainly microwave device development and production, especially in the area of high power microwave magnetics. The results in each of the time periods listed below were devices used either for Westinghouse in-house systems or delivered under contract to the US Department Of Defense.

07/98 to Present

Computer Consultant and Database Designer

Database Programming for a commercial wholesaler. MS Access forms and reports; VBA and VB6 programming . Data manipulation and parsing in C++ and C. Some AutoCAD layout. WIN "tuning", setup and instruction. Photoshop, PaintShop, various Macromedia apps in graphical design. WWW website design using Macromedia apps.

1/92 to 07/98 "Retirement"

4/90 to 12/91
Sr. Engineer
Comptroller Department

Westinghouse Electronics Systems Division

Applied statistical techniques to compare Program Costing over a period of years. Developed a unique nonlinear regression method for this and implemented it in a fully developed QuickBasic computer program, complete with databasing and graphical charting.  (Pre MS Excel ready made DIY routines)

Developed Lotus 123 Macro Programs for predicting and analyzing corporate travel costs; The same for statistically analyzing 'Break In Production' perturbations for several Manufacturing Contracts.

1/87 to 3/90
Sr.Engineer
Microwave Operations:

Westinghouse Electronics Systems Division

Investigated and developed (with members of Westinghouse's Advanced Technology Division), the basic Frequency Selective Limiter for the ASPJ program. Created the magnetics analysis and techniques for this device. Made innovative use of LOTUS spreadsheet macro language to construct a spreadsheet magnetic limiter analyzer. Developed several VAX analysis programs for predicting the behavior of magnetostatic wave channelizers.

1/84 to 1/87
Sr. Engineer
Microwave Operations:

Westinghouse Defense and Space Center

Redesigned, tested, and built several multi-bit diode phase shifters for the VJ 930 program. Used full interactive graphics (CAD) techniques in the design. Implemented a computerized dynamic tuning technique for the device.

5/79 to 1/84
Sr. Engineer
Microwave Operations:

Westinghouse Defense and Space Center

Designed and developed various high-speed diode phase shifters and modulators for several in-house and defense related programs. Demonstrated applicability of CAD interactive graphics to microwave integrated circuit design.

5/72 to 5/79
Sr. Engineer
Microwave Operations:

Westinghouse Defense and Space Center

Developed production dual-mode and Fox type ferrite phase shifters in cooperation with Microwave Applications Group of Santa Maria, CA. Manufacturing engineer for second source AWACS high power ferrite beam steering phase shifters.

6/66 to 4/72
Engineer/Sr.Engineer
Microwave Physics Group:

Westinghouse Defense and Space Center
R&D, microwave magnetic devices, particularly YIG (Yttrium Iron Garnet) delay lines, correlators and switched ferrite phase shifters. Investigated microwave radiometric techniques for satellite vertical sensing.
PRIOR:
1/62 to 5/66

Engineer
1st Lieutenant USAF
Aircraft vibration analysis, test and measurement using early mainframe based spectral analysis methods.
Before that:
6/60 to 12/61

Engineer
Pennsylvania Power & Light Co.
Mainly traveling Electrical Test Engineer with an employer training program. First computer programming commercial experience on the IBM 650, and the Burroughs 'LGP30' computer.

EDUCATION Courses in Computer Programming, including C, C++, x86 Assembler, AutoCad/Autolisp, at U of MD, Baltimore Campus and Catonsville Community College, 1993 to 1996

Statistics and Mathematics courses well beyond M.S. requirements.

M.S., Physics, St.Mary's University, San Antonio, Texas, 1965. Cooperative courses at Trinity U., same city.

B.S., Engrng. Physics, Lehigh University, Bethlehem, Pa.,1960.

Several electronics correspondence courses, 1972 to 1974.

SPECIALIZATION Capabilities have evolved to include and emphasize the creation and application of technical software, especially in the field of magnetics and microwave device design. Since personal computers became available and inexpensive in the early 80s, a hobby has been the development of graphics software. Past effort is a fractal graphics program written for the PC clone family in MS 'QuickBasic'. Recently using WIN Database apps, ie, MS Access, Claris Filemaker.

Have designed and built devices based on personally developed analytical software for operating systems on: VAX/VMS, making full use of mixed language linking and FORTRAN based graphics. IBM PC and clones, using vintage mid-'80s Microsoft Quickbasic and 80286 assembly. Thoroughly familiar with Hewlett Packard personal computer systems, using several of their BASIC dialects and instrument control language. Apple II+, Apple DOS 3.3 and 6502 assembly language.

Other computer skills are: Proficiency with WIN95/98/XP, DOS based data recovery, LOTUS macros and spreadsheets, AutoCAD design. Familiarity with Excel, WordPerfect, MS Word. Expertise with the "TOUCHSTONE" and "SUPERCOMPACT" microwave design utilities. Good working familiarity with the early Computervision interactive graphics CAD system.
