Season preview issue hits the stands
The 1999 season began with a bang on Saturday when Penn State and Florida State each asserted their contention that they belong at the top of the rankings. The Nittany Lions, who earned our preseason #1 ranking, pummeled 4th ranked Arizona 41-7. Florida State equaled that score against Louisiana Tech. Another pair of top-twos were on display Saturday. PSU linebacker LaVar Arrington (#1 overall prospect) and FSU wide receiver Peter Warrick (#2) both had banner days.
