Mysteries of the Universe that seemingly defy logic.

Why take the trouble to think?

Become a conservative or a liberal instead.  That is, once somebody attaches a label to a position for you, it will direct your position on any and all subjects.

The puzzle is,  who would want it known that they don't do their own thinking?  As a former listener of Rush Limbaugh's program, I was often amused by the positions Mr. Limbaugh advocated.  Not his political positions, some of which I could identify with, but his instructions to his audience to use him as the only source of information and conclusions.  Taken "tongue in cheek", as probably originally intended, the  concept deserves a smile.   The calls to the program, however, boggled the mind.  No only were there people rushing to admit adhering to the concept, they were so proud that Rush did their thinking for them, they adopted the perfect descriptive name, Ditto Head!                       Hell-ooo!

So That's Why I Voted for You!

Both political parties demonstrate a great deal of contempt for their supporters.  Having caused much of what happens in this country, I am particularly sensitive to being told why I voted for the political victors.   When I voted to fire an incompetent incumbent president, with a constituency limited to the oil industry, why did the incoming victorious vice president tell me over and over again, that I voted for him and his running mate to re-engineer the country?   I voted against the majority in congress that chose to ignore all inputs from the minority party and the voters.  Then the new majority party attempted to re-engineer the country while telling me, over and over again, that I voted for them to do just that...and because of something called the Contract with America.             Hell-ooo!

Did it ever occur to either party to ask why we voted the way we did...and did they really think we accept their reason for our decision???                 Hell-ooo!    When I split my vote in the next election, they finally seemed to figured it out.  We, the public, don't trust either set of BUMS with authority and don't know how to throw them both out...unless, no certainly not him.

They are Social Engineering?

The Republicans make a big issue of the Democrats attempting a lot of social engineering including transfer of money, via the tax system, from the middle class to the lower income class.  So what have they just done?  Transfer our money to families with children in college.           Hell-ooo!!!  That's not your money to give away and who says us post (or pre) college age parents aren't middle class?   We are voters.

Fair?

A battle cry of the Democratic Party is that the tax system isn't fair.  Can't argue with that!  They seem, however, to feel that the tax system exists to redistribute income.  I thought it was to provide essential services we can't provide ourselves.  I also suspect that the lower one's income, the greater the dependence on the government and the greater the use of government services.   Therefore, wouldn't it be fair for those with the lowest income, to pay the highest taxes? They use the most services.   No, I don't want that to happen even though it's only fair.
