Samuel was born about 1826 in Cohasset, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. He was married at age 38. He was the son of Samuel and Hannah Delano. He was the son of Samuel Delano and Hannah Bates. Samuel worked as a caulker in the shipyards of Newburyport.
