*** TRANSMITTER LOCATIONS FOR GARMIN GPS RECEIVERS ***
It is now possible to create custom Points of Interest (POI) for Garmin GPS receivers from xxSTNS.
TXT2CSV.ZIP contains a converter from xxSTNS TXT output to the CSV format used by the Garmin receivers.
I place this converter in my C:\_STNS folder, anywhere else will do.

******* TRANSMITTER LOCATIONS FOR GOOGLE EARTH *******
Donwload Google Earth(R) from this site if you don't already have it. GE requires high-speed Internet access.

KMLFILES.ZIP contains broadcasting station transmitter locations for Google Earth for a dozen
metro areas in the USA. It is in ZIP form. Download it and expand it into its own empty folder.

There are two files for each metro area.

The ones beginning with M contain the AM transmitters including CPs [+]
and applications [@]. d=day n=night u=unlimited c=critical hours.

The ones beginning with V contain the TV and FM transmitters of all powers including
operating CPs [+], but no applications. There are too many translator applications.

Either double-left-click on the file you wish to display or drag-&-drop it onto Google Earth.

CREATE YOUR OWN KML FILES
Current versions of AMSTNS and TVFMSTNS allow you to create your own KML files.
Find the stations you want to plot. Then press F6 and then G.
Make the search radius small (F10 F5) since plotting too many stations may cause problems.
The number of records that will output is in the upper-right corner of the screen.
Help F1 gives more info on KML output.

xxSTNS on Windows VISTA
Many versions of Windows VISTA do not allow the full-screen command line mode required by xxSTNS. http://www.columbia.edu/~em36/wpdos/ discusses this situation. Read it carefully. It claims that forcing VISTA to use its Standard VGA Grapics Adapter driver will solve this situation. The most basic versions of VISTA are said to use this driver as their default.

For AM, AS4-6B2D has slight improvements that result in much faster startup when using X86 emulators such as DOSBox. Download AMSTNS and data from Vehorn, UNZIP AS4-6B2D into the same folder as the data and execute it instead of the older AMSTNS.exe.
