ohn Wimborough (b.c. 1612) appears in Accawmacke Co.,Va. as early as 1649 with his wife Barbary (b.c. 1612)and two young sons, John Jr.(b.c. 1643) and Frances (b.c.1636). They settled in an area near Hungar's Parish renting land from Robert Burton. In 1660/61 they had a daughter Ann. It has been speculated that the family emigrated from Kent or Sussex Counties in England. It may be they came to Virginia for freedom from religious persecution, but came to find the same strict church ethics sailed the Atlantic with them. As early as 1649 Barbary Wimbrow was accused of slander, and in 1655 of witchery. Each situation was rectified but there is no doubt of the defiance and fiery spirit of this family.

John Wimbrow Jr./III? married Rachel Lucas, daughter of William Lucas and Mary Millechoppe. Mary Millechoppe was the daughter of Nicholas Millechoppe Sr. another very early Virginian of Pungoteague/ Assawomen Creek. John and Rachel had at least one son Solomon Lucas Wimbrow. John also has a connection to the Bird and Ebourne Family. John Bird's will of 1727/28 lists his children Solomon, Major, Eborn, Daniel, Nathaniel wit. John Johnson, Samuel Johnson, and John Wineberry.

WIMBROW

"Lineage : The name of the family first occurs under the form of Wimbrow in a tax list of Accomack Co., Virginia, dated 1686, More usually, it appears a WIMBROUGH until the end of the eighteenth century (inventory of William Wimbrough, of Accomack Co. 1731, will of Joseph Wimbrough, of Accomack Co. 1771, etc.). The writer has often met her in class, and at her home heard from her lips the love she felt for Jesus and his people and would shout and leap for joy in expectation of a home in Heaven. She was a loving companion, a kind mother and took good care of the Methodist preachers where they always found a good home. She is now looking for her companion and children she left behind, may they all meet in Heaven. G. W. Covington
