The Laws Family was a large, prestigious, and patriotic family. Statesmen, Justices, Lawyers, Doctors and Governors all descend from the family patriarch, John Laws, Sr. Their primary residents were Sussex and Kent Counties, De., though some staked claims in Worcester Co. Md., near early claims that were originally patented in Somerset County, before 1842. The Laws family was very close with the Polk family, their families married into each others frequently. The Polk family is the same well known Southern aristocatic family from the Carolinas, which produced James Knox Polk, a former President of the United States, among others.
