Gay Sunshine Press "I fully believe [literary historians] will view this Gay Cultural Renaissance as being of equal importance with other movements of the second half of the Twentieth Century." Founded in 1975 and still in existence, Gay Sunshine press is the oldest American Gay press. Headed by Winston Leyland, it has continually produced some of the best and innovative Gay books of our times-whether classics of erotica, ground breaking anthologies, or innovative poetry and fiction.. By dedicating itself to printing works of both American and foreign Gay writers that main line publishers would not touch (even in this day and age), Gay Sunshine has performed and is still performing an inestimable service in the cause of Gays everywhere. The following works are among the scarcest produced by the Gay Sunshine press, usually limited to editions of only 10 to 26 copies. Needless to say, they are not in any Library collection. Truly, they are reliquaries from the golden age of Gay literature. Boyd, Malcolm. Look Back In Joy. San Francisco, Gay Sunshine, 1981. One of only 26 signed and lettered copies bound in quarter cloth covered boards. Fine condition, 127 pages. Fond remembrances of past tricks by this man of the cloth. A novel of contemporary Chinese gay life. (not as much of an oxymoron as one might suppose) Summers says it is the first appearance of homosexual Chinese literature since the end of the Ching dynasty. Based on actual events as they occurred, this work is not only a novel but also a sociological first, since prior to this there were no pubic (oops, I meant public) accounts of Gay life in Chinese society. Imagine if Margaret Mead and Pearl Buck had stumbled upon Gay bars and baths and wrote a novel about it. (Coming of Age in the Mineshaft or The Bad Earth?) $ 500 Kelly, Dennis.
