The Olympian Primacy

A Religious Authority in Lords of the Earth, Campaign Forty-Seven

Welcome to the home page for the Olympian Primacy, a religious authority in the fictional world of the Lords of the Earth game.

The Olympian Primacy was founded by Cascius, the deeply devout regent of Macedonia, who, at the Great Convocation of  Thessaloniki in 220 B.C.E., named Galinthias of the Hellenic Alliance as the Patriarch of the new religion.

As of this writing, the Olympian Primacy still maintains many of the elements of the Hellenic Alliance from which it sprang.  It is, however, slowly divesting itself of worldly concerns so as to enable it to concentrate on its central goals of spreading the Olympian faith and aiding the Olympian peoples to attain excellence in all their actions.

The Olympian Primacy is a member of the Pan-Hellenic League, a strong alliance composed of many Hellenic nations.  However, the Primacy is just as active in the West, serving Massalia and mighty Rome, and enjoying strong relationships throughout Europe, the Mediterranean and the Near East.

History of the Olympian Primacy

The Hellenic Alliance was founded in 260 B.C. as a means of mutual protection between the classical city-states following the death of Alexander.  The great generals, such as the Ptolemies and Seleucids, had founded empires elsewhere, but the original Hellenic cities were on their own.

259 B.C.E.- Ariatis of Athens proposes the foundation of the Pan-Hellenic League to the leaders of the world's great Hellenic nations.

256 B.C.E. - The Pan-Hellenic League is formed.  It includes the Hellenic Alliance, Ilyria, Antigonid Macedonia, Pontus, Ptolemaic Egypt and the Seleucid Empire.  Masilia, Rome and Bactria do not join.  Theacius of Sparta conquers Lydia and adds it to the Alliance.

251 B.C.E. - Ariatis founds the city of Rodos on Rhodes.  Mercenaries of the Spears of the Isles conquer Serbia in the name of the Hellenic Alliance.

246 B.C.E. - Theacius re-founds the city of Sparta near ancient Laikedemon in Morea.

240 B.C.E. - The Hellenic Alliance decides to change strategies, and marches out of Serbia.

237 B.C.E. - June 21st.  A massive earthquake strikes the island Rhodes, filling in the harbor of Rodos.  The oracles pronounce that the gods do not wish Rodos to be their holy city, as has been planned.

224 B.C.E. - Storms set terrible fires in Crete.  Ariatis dies in Lydia.  After his death, Lydia finally enters fully into the Alliance. Galinthias becomes Demokrator.

220 B.C.E. - Founding of the city of Ephesus in Lydia and the city of Knossos on Crete.  Galinthias attends the Great Convocation in Thessaloniki and is named the new Patriarch, taking the official titles "Voice of Zeus and Speaker of the Gods."  The Olympian Primacy is born.  Churches and cathedrals are built all over the Greco-Roman world as the Primacy is widely embraced.
