As the founder of North Carroll Girls'
Fast Pitch, Inc. I would like to thank you for taking the time to visit our
site. The site has developed over a period of years and was
recently honored by Fast Pitch World as one of the best.
This program began because of fast pitch softball being played in
high school and college, while our area like most were playing slow
pitch. I come from a background of fast pitch. I started at the age of 17. I was
introduced to fast pitch in the United States Marine
Corps in 1963. I'm very proud to have played for the Marine Corps
and the people that took time to develop me into a player. I
continued to play fast pitch for many years up until the time injuries
kept me from continuing on. I then went into coaching. In the
early years not having the experience I was one of those dreaded
screamers you hear a lot about. After understanding that the maniac way
of instructing doesn't work, what do you do? I started by reading
baseball books and believe me there were few to be found years
ago. There were no softball books.
Later on I found a few softball books in but they didn't
make much sense on how the game is truly played. So I started
with my own philosophy and began North Carroll Girls' Fast Pitch, Inc.
Part of North Carroll's mission is to help develop the girls and assist
others in getting started. Believe me we've done this. The
program became a member of the local recreation council and remained for a
couple of years until the coaches in this Program felt we should be with
an organization that is devoted to softball. The program moved.
This turned out to be a mistake and I found the Program in a situation that
should have been avoided. We became independent again and still
are. The Program always keeps the
young ladies the foremost reason to be in existence. The organizations
that we left did start recreational fast pitch softball programs. Our
goal to establish fast pitch softball in the community has been
accomplished.
North Carroll requires all its' Coaches to have a background check and become
Amateur Softball Association certified each year. New head coaches must
submit a resume, be approved by our Board of Directors, and attend
Clinics. Coaches must also believe in the philosophy of the program.
This ensures we get the best qualified coaches.
A scholarship fund has been
established and is available to high school seniors or first year college
girls. They must have participated two
year in any of our programs or have been a certified coach. Each year a
committee is selected to determine if a young lady is qualified and can award
a scholarship under the guidelines established by the
organization. North Carroll was the first independent softball
organization to do this.
Over the years we've had various age groups and coaches in the
organization. Some lasted some didn't. North Carroll has a
Philosophy that is very simple - our Coaches encourage fundamentals,
sportsmanship, and character over winning.
They keep their eyes off the scoreboard and their eyes on the
girls and encourage them for results. Coaches must be here for all
the girls and not their nine. The
result hopefully is a future parent and citizen of this country and maybe
even a good coach.
North Carroll is rich in tradition, proud
of its’ accomplishments and has a lot to offer to all communities. The Organization has given and has been
taken from.
I conduct a pitching clinic starting in
October and ends in February each year. I also conduct a general
skills clinic in January and February each year. I am a certified ASA
Clinician, pitching instructor, former player, and have coached at the high
school and been an advisor at the college level.
I am available to organizations to put on pitching or skills
clinics. Contact me at ncgfp@qis.net
