Container Damage on the APL China

Shortly after the APL China arrived in Seattle to discharge the damaged containers and assess vessel damages, the International Longshore and Warehouse Union Auxiliary (Seattle, Washington) posted 25 photographs documenting the damages to the C-11 containership. 15 of those pictures well downloaded from the page ILWU page and in turn posted on this page.

In November 1998 the home page for the ILWU (URL was http://www.jps.net/xendar/auxpage1.htm), but this link is no longer active. The photographs are still available though on URL http://www.jps.net/xendar/china/). There are 28 original photographs. Other original photographs - which are not posted on my page - of interest are ch07.jpg and ch16.jpg. These can be downloaded by simply clicking on the file name. There are an additional 21 photographs taken onboard of damaged containers. These are found under "new pictues" on the html page named china.htm.

Shortly after the photographs were posted by the ILWU I took 15 of these photographs have been captured, and ordered logically from bow to stern of the APL China. Thumbnail images with hot links are provided for 7 of the photographs. The photographs (about 50Kbytes each) have eight character codes (so they are still readable in DOS and Windows 3.x formats) which are numbered and coded as follows:

chinXXAY.jpg

the 'chin' stands for APL China

XX is the number of the photograph in the original source (ILWU page)
A is a alphabetic code (a to f) starting from the port side bow, around to the stern
Y is a numerical code (1 to 6) giving the approximate orientation of the viewer;

for example "3" would be a photograph taken straight abeam of the ship location "c"
