Yes...B Troop had a yearbook in 1971. It contained 60 pages of B/W photos of everyone in the troop. The introduction page in the front states that B Troop arrived in Vietnam on 31 October, 1967 and set up camp at Di An. It also states that B Troop was the first of the Squadron to see combat while training with the 1st Infantry during Operation Red Horse. It also lists sucessive B Troop CO's as Maj William Oakes, followed by Maj Oscar Mack, Maj Jimmie Ford and Maj Richard Chilcoat, who was CO at the time of the yearbook. This book is an interesting look into the lives of the men of B Troop during 1971. Charles Beck brought it to the 1999 3/17th Reunion in Louisville and was kind enough to lend it for use here. If space allowed, I would publish the whole thing...unfortunately we don't have that much room. If anyone is interested in material from the yearbook, contact Charles Beck at: c.ebeck@mindspring.com |
