The most important photo we need is the one for the B Troop Roster. Any snapshot, color or B/W will do as long as you are recognizable in the photo. Pick one that you like of course, and after receiving the scan, I will crop it to a head and shoulders size, adjust the brightness and contrast and post it.

Sending photo scans to the website is relatively straightforward. If you own a scanner, than you already know how this works. Most of the photos you have from Vietnam are 3 1/2"X5" size and if you will scan them at 100 dpi to 150 dpi in RGB color (same for B/W photos), they will be perfect. Save them in '.jpg' format, at or near the 'high quality' end of compression range, if you have that choice. In the email window of your browser, just use the 'attach' menu button and choose the file and send it to my email address. In the correspondence section, please include all the pertinent info you would like posted with the photo...quotes, where photo was taken, when, etc. Don't worry if the photo is scratched or faded...I will work some digital magic on the scan and it will look almost new again.

If you don't own a scanner (most folks don't), then a couple of approaches will usually work. The first involves finding a friend with one who will do the scanning for you. You can have the friend save the scan(s) to a floppy in the '.jpg' format at 100 to 150 dpi...then transfer them to your hard drive and send them here via email in the normal manner. Additional note: don't let the file size throw you....when the scanner finishes a scan of a snapshot, the file size will be larger than a floppy...when it's compressed as a .jpg however, it will about 125k or so...you can fit several .jpg'ed files on the floppy disk.

If you don't have a friend with a scanner...then Kinko's or other similar service bureau near you can do the scans for you and put them on the floppy for a small fee. Just make sure that you tell them about the 100-150 dpi in RGB color details.

The last approach is more ventursome; if you don't have any of the above options...then you can send me the photos themselves and I will scan them and return them to you. This involves a measure of trust and I will treat them as treasured heirlooms. If you choose to do this, pack them carefully between stiff cardboard and use a padded mailer (you can get that from the Post Office). I will scan the photos and have them back in the mail to you, undamaged, within 24 hours. I promise. Email me for my snailmail address and to let me know to expect them.

A final note: The images that you share with other members of B Troop are your personal property...always. If for any reason you change your mind about having them displayed here or want them changed in some manner, let me know. I will change or remove them within 24 hours.
