THE 2008 IATA CONGRESS WILL BE HELD IN MEXICO AND USA IN MARCH (M.C)
The International Association of Aficionados Taurinos is an organization formed by aficionados practicos and other aficionados interested with this type of taurine activity. Practicos are bullfighting aficionados who fight brave young brave bulls or calves without professional ambition, just as a hobby. During the last 8 years IATA has been holding a convention and, since a great majority of the members are American, to facilate their attendance the conventions have always been held in locations close to the American border with México. This year’s convention is in honor of the National Association of Taurine Clubs of the United States of America.
Ed Cohn and Fred Renk, President and Vice President, respectively of the International Association of Aficionados Taurinos announced that the IX- IATA Convention will take place in Reynosa, México as well as and at the Texan town of La Gloria, near McAllen in the United States, on March 8 and 9, 2008. These are the highlights of the program for the convention:
FESTIVAL. On Saturday, March 8 at 2:00 p.m. a
festival will be held at the Plaza Monumental of
Reynosa, Mexico, where American aficionados David
Moss, Mario Orlando, Jorge Valcarcel, Jim Verner,
Robert Weldon, and three more practicos to be
announced later, will fight nine young bulls of the
Mexican Arturo G. García
ranch.
They will be competing for different prizes.
Admission
to the plaza
is
free.
TIENTA AND AWARDS BANQUET. On Sunday March 9 at the
bull breeder and impresario Fred Renk’s Querencia
Ranch
in the Plaza de Toros Santa Maria, four brave
calves of the Fred Renk stock will be tested, and any
conventioneers will be invited to fight the young
animals. Later the Awards Banquet will follow, where a
tradicional Texas barbecue will be served, and the
prizes earned by the practicos in the Reynosa Festival
will be awarded.
