Before there
was a submarine launched ballistic missile- carried on deterrent patrols by
SSBN Submarines- there was a submarine launched Regulus I guided missile. Only
one special nuclear powered submarine carried the Regulus I on deterrent missile
patrols.
After Regulus I this special
nuclear powered submarine was refitted twice for a second and third career to
perform special underwater operations of great value to the United states of
America- at which she excelled.
This first SSGN submarine was the
nuclear powered USS Halibut, the only one of her kind ever built. This boat-
with her single 110 man crew- set standards of excellence and endurance, to
which future SSGN's may only aspire.
To them- Godspeed and Good Hunting
