Wahlert Family Visit

The elusive Ray Wahlert, quietly reposing on our deck. The question I should have asked is "Do any of these trees have an aura indicating illness?" Because about 7 hours later, I get a call at work…

The coolest beech in the yard now appears a bit shorter. Why?

Our neighbor's back yard, looking toward ours.

From the same spot, a bit closer.

Cody managed to borrow an electric chainsaw from Lee, a retired Marine living a few doors down. Cody is 6' tall. That gives you some idea of the amount of wood tonnage we had to remove ASAP. Thanks to Cody and Tyler, we cleared the neighbor's yard before dinner.

Putting the saw to work.

I rented a gas-powered saw.

Taking a break while we discuss our next move.
Prayer seemed like a good idea...as did 800mg of Motrin.
It was really nice having Lynne, Ray, and Tyler visit. We hope they can make it out here again but now that I know my brother-in-law better, I don't think this area holds any attraction for them. Our trout streams can't compare to the wild, prolific, and uninhabited, pristine rivers of Idaho. The vistas of the Appalachians cannot compare to those of the Sawtooths. Looks like the only way we'll see them again is for us to head west.
