Free Zones and Industrial Parks

Our firm is the most experienced consulting firm in the Dominican Republic, insofar as the planning, study, design and supervision of free zones and industrial parks.
Among the free zone projects designed by SERCITEC are the Itabo Industrial Park (the most modern in the country), ZOFILA in Los Alcarrizos and the Nicolas Vargas Industrial Park in Santiago. Designs have been made and industrial buildings have been supervised in the Free Zones of Villa Mella and San Pedro de Macorís.
Among our clients in free zones are included some of the largest industrial companies of the United States with operations in the Dominican Republic, such as ABBOTT Laboratories, Baxter, GTE, Westinghouse, Hanes, Sylvania and Bristol Myers.

Tourism

Since 1972 when Engineer Victor A. Thomén, President of SERCITEC prepared the draft bill for Law No. 153 on Incentives and Promotion for Tourism, which regulates the tourism sector, the company has been closely linked with the promotion and development of tourism projects in the Dominican Republic.
Among these projects, SERCITEC has prepared the studies and services infrastructure designs for Costa de Ambar, the designs for different tourism projects throughout the country including Cayena Beach Resort in Nagua, Playa Reyna, Costa de Ambar Hotel and Marina, and the Hotel Hyatt*. The latter project was awarded the Project of the Year by the General Tourism Agency in 1985.

Architecture

The Architecture Department of SERCITEC is composed of a staff of high-level professionals. Among the most important projects that have been executed by the firm are the Junta Agroempresarial Building and the offices of American Airlines in Santo Domingo. We were the winners of a bidding competition for the design of the Palace of Justice in Santiago. In recent years, SERCITEC has been in charge of the program for modernizing the Shell stations in Santo Domingo.

Transportation

SERCITEC is the most experienced firm in the country in transportation. In 1976, along with Delcanda International, we conducted the first study of the transportation sector undertaken in the country. Since then, we have been linked to this discipline and we have been involved in several projects for the Ministry of Public Works as well as for ONATRATE.
Our experience in the transportation field extends to studies of airports, ports and rail transportation.
More recently, we participated and won a bidding competition for the study of urban transportation for the city of Santo Domingo. This study was financed by the World Bank.

Supervision and Design of Roads

SERCITEC has designed and supervised more kilometers of roads in our country than any othernational or foreign consulting firm. To date, we have supervised the construction or re-construction of over 300 kilometers of highways. Among these are the Azua-Barahona, Cruce de Azua-San Juan, Cruce Guayacanes-Santiago de la Cruz, Guerra-Monte PLATA, Cruce Duarte-Moca, Cruce Duarte-Jarabacoa, Santo Domingo- Baní, Cruce Ocoa-Ocoa and La Romana-Cruce San Rafael de Yuma Highways, just to mention the most important.
Our experience in roads extends to the area of planning and designing of railways. Among these are the Santo Domingo-Santiago, Pueblo Viejo-Arroyo Barril and Barahona-Las Salinas Railways.
The majority of the highway projects have been financed by international credit institutions.

Institutional Strengthening

The company has accumulated vast experience in projects of institutional strengthening for different companies and institutions of the public sector. SERCITEC was in charge of the studies for the re-organization of the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (two projects), of the State Sugar Council (³Consejo Estatal de Azucar²) and the National Institute of Water Resources (³Instituto Nacional de Recursos Hidráulicos²). We also undertook the studies that established the basis for the creation of a National Office of Land Transportation (³Oficina Nacional de Transporte Terrestre - ONATRATE²) and the Instituto Dominicano de Investigación Agrícola (IDIA) All these projects were financed by international credit institutions.

Non-conventional Energy

SERCITEC has been working actively in the area of study and development of non-conventional sources of energy. Among the projects in which we have participated are a study showing the economic feasibility of utilizing sugar cane waste for the generation of energy in the Barahona and Quisqueya Mills. SERCITEC was commissioned by the CDE (Dominican Electric Corporation) to conduct a study of the feasibility of installing a 50,000 KW dendro-thermal plant via the development of an energy farm of 8,000 hectares in the eastern portion of the country. Evaluation studies were also conducted in the yield of experimental leucaena plantations.

Hydro-electric Energy
The company has participated in the study and design of small hydroelectric projects to supply energy to isolated communities or to be integrated into the national network. Among others, the hydroelectric projects of Casuí, Cocuyo, Limón and Lateral Nizao were studied. These studies were taken to the level of feasibility studies while the Casuí project was taken on to the level of final design.

Irrigation Systems

SERCITEC has accumulated vast experience in the planning, study and design of irrigation systems, including derivation dams, canals, hydroelectric installations and drainage systems.
Among the designed projects are the canals of Mijo, Dorado, Roselia, El Llano, Guayacanes side of the Mr. Bogaert Canals, Yabacoa and the master plan for the development of the La Cruz de Manzanillo Project.
We have participated in several studies of the lakes bordering the Yabacoa, Marcos A. Cabral and San Juan Canals.
We were in charge, along with Hydro-Triad, with the design of the Arroyo Hondo Dam at the Rosario Gold Mine in Cotui.

Agriculture and Livestock

SERCITEC has participated in many studies related to the development of agriculture and livestock in the country. Studies related to the development of agriculture and livestock in the country were conducted. A national study was conducted on the livestock sector and its impact on the national economy was conducted, as well as another on the marketing of rice, in order to define Governmental policy.
An evaluation of DACEA, the Agricultural Department of the State Sugar Council was made, in order to determine the operability of this part of the state institution.
