Braddock Road Tops Vienna 4-2 for Spring '02 ChampionshipSOUTH RUN, June 8 -- The Bob Coffin-coached team from Braddock Road (Team 6) defeated Team 8 from Vienna, coached by Cyril May, 4-2 in an exciting and well played game on a beautiful day with temperatures in the mid '70's.
Vienna struck first just over 15 minutes into the game as a well-placed shot went over the Braddock Road goalie's outstretched fingers. But Braddock Road struck back, tying the game with less than a minute to play in the first half on a nice shot by Jenn Sigg.
In the second half, Braddock Road took the lead in the 17th minute on a long, high shot by Katherine Muehlib. But 10 minutes later, Vienna tied the game again on another hard shot.
Both teams continued to threaten, but with just 11 minutes to go, Braddock Road's Annie Doudaklian took a nice pass from Laura Berman and put the ball in the back of the net for a 3-2 lead. Meg Zemitis added an insurance goal in the 44th minute for the final 4-2 score.
During the regular season, Coffin's team won all 10 games, scoring 64 goals and giving up 6. They defeated Vienna (Team 1) 3-1 to reach the finals. May's team was 9-0-1 during the regular season, scoring 45 and giving up 7. They defeated Braddock Road (Team 13) 2-1 to make the finals. Team 4 (Springfield) won third place medals in the Red Division, while Team 14 (Braddock Road) placed third in the Black Division.
