U-19 Girls Win at
FPYC All Star TourneyThe Springfield Youth Club under-19 girls team took home first-place trophies from the 18th annual Fairfax Police Youth Club's Father's Day All Star Tournament following a 4-1 victory in the championship game played at Ft. Belvoir.
The Frank Enos-coached team defeated Herndon on goals by Kathy Wainwright, Candice Mallon (2) and Adria Truempy. Assists went to Sherrie Cranston, Ashley Arnista and Kathy Wainwright. Defensive standouts were Meghan Kluttz, Kelley Miller and Laura Hughes.
Earlier, the U-19 all star team posted 3-0, 6-0 and 4-1 victories on their way to the championship game. Scoring were Adria Truempy (4), Kathy Wainwright (3), Sherrie Cranston and Kelly O'Neil (2 each), and Jill Mahoney and Kelley Miller with single tallies. Named as defensive standouts during the three qualifying games were Jill Mahoney (3), Kelley Miller (3), Ashley Arnista (2), Amanda Gilbert (2), Kathy Wainwright (2), Meghan Kluttz and Jeannie Mahoney.
The U-16 all star team, coached by Jim Miller, lost its first game 1-0 on a penalty kick following a controversial hand ball call, came from behind to tie its second game 1-1 on a goal by Katey Lackner on a fine assist by Amy Carfagno, and won its final game 6-0. Scoring in that match were Amy Carfagno (3), Amanda Hubert (2) and Lauren Linder. Assists were credited to Amanda Hubert (2), Alix Brooks-Kenney, Kate Frear and Mo McClelland.
