Links or Web Sites I Wish I Had Done

Here are a few sites that I love to visit:

Bill Gates is Satan. It's one long rant against the Founder/CEO/Chairman of Microsoft that is very elegantly designed. No other corporate CEO and/or Chairman has ever inspired this much venom that's wrapped in a pretty package.

The Captain James T. Kirk Singalong Site. Are you tired of the same old Star Trek fan sites? You know, the ones that talk about how great Star Trek is or provide synopsis of every single episode from every single Star Trek series and movies ever made or debate who is the sexiest female who ever appeared on the original Star Trek (Lt. Uhura vs. Yeoman Rand). Then check out this site, which focuses more on the singing abilities of the Star Trek actors. If you have the RealVideo plug-in, you can hear William Shatner's unique versions of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds and Mr. Tambourine Man or Lenoard Nimoy singing a ditty called Twinkle Twinkle Little Earth. After you visit this site, you'll understand why Shatner never recorded a follow-up to his Transformed Man album or why any one of Nimoy's albums isn't remembered as fondly as the Rolling Stones' Exiles on Main Street or the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Comedyzine. If you need comic relief, then check this site out. It's full of topical satire and parts of this site is updated weekly so you can get a regular dose of humor.

The Drudge Retort. Are you sick of all the mainstream media attention that's been placed on Matt Drudge and his Drudge Report? Then check out The Drudge Retort, the yellow-paged site that bills itself as "Putting the yellow back into journalism." It's a hilarious parody site that's updated on a very frequent basis.

Fags in Space. Imagine Star Trek or Star Wars with an all-gay cast and you'll get this site, which bills itself as "a completely queer cosmic comic." You don't have to be gay to appreciate this site, which sends up every single science-fiction cliché that you've ever came across.

The Free Site. Are you a webmaster or webmistress who want to put up a professional-looking site, but don't have the money to achieve that goal? Then check out this site, which provides links to other sites where you can get free stuff for your site--such as counters, guestbooks, mailing lists, animated gifs, MIDI music, Java applets, and much more. Even if you need free web server space, The Free Site will help you.

The Hunger Site has a really cool idea. Everytime you visit that site and click on a button, a sponsoring company will donate money towards eradicating hunger. Click on the button below and find out how easy it really it.

I See Lucy is a website set up by filmmaker Michael Moore (Roger & Me, The Big One, TV Nation, The Awful Truth) that spies on the apartment of Lucianne Goldberg, one of the figures in the Bill Clinton-Monica Lewinsky scandal. (She was the one who urged Linda Tripp to secretly tape her conversations with Monica Lewinsky.)

John Mann's Wacky Packages Web Page. As you can tell, The Unicorn With An Attitude is full of my warped humor, which came about as a result of two things I was exposed to in my childhood--Mad magazine and Wacky Packages. This site pays homage to the latter and it's very well done. What's cool is that this site contains gifs of every single Wacky Package sticker that the Topps Chewing Gum Company have ever released in the 1970's as well as new Wacky Packages created and submitted by depraved fans.

Kevin & Kell is a hilarious online comic strip. This site has a better explanation of what it's about than what I can possibly write here: "Kevin: A rabbit down on the luck his foot was supposed to provide. Kell: A lovely, lonely, widowed she-wolf. They meet in an online chat room, fall in love, and marry--with children--into a wild kingdom where domestication is the secret shame, tree limbs are rental properties, birds are public servants, and the computers are just as troublesome."

Miss Abigail's Time Warp. Do you have a problem that a contemporary solution just can't fix? Then ask Miss Abigail and she'll give you advice taken from her extensive collection of old books published between 1832-1977. Whether it's advice on teenage sex from the 1950's or maintaining a happy marriage from the 1890's, Miss Abigail has all the old-fashioned, out-of-date answers for you.

My Name is Anastasia. This web site has nothing to do with 20th Century Fox's Disney-style (in terms of both the historical distortion and the animation) cartoon. It is a straightforward "autobiography" of the tragic Russian princess that was especially designed with junior high and high school students in mind. Adult history buffs will also enjoy this site, especially the personal family photos and the display of a watercolor that Anastasia painted.

The OtterPage. Joe Otterbein, a baker and chef by trade, devotes his website to his wry and provacative commentaries on the important news and issues of our day. His site clearly states that he is modeling his writing style after such outspoken writers as H.L. Mencken and Nellie Bly. Joe Otterbein is such an excellent writer that had he lived in a different era--when newspapers weren't dominated by multinational corporate conglomerates concerned with the bottom line--he would've been a well-respected newspaper columnist winning numerous Pulitzer Prizes. His columns are more interesting to read than anything posted on either The Drudge Report or Salon.

Parlor Songs MIDI Collection. Constance Forward was a music teacher whose main hobby was collecting sheet music from 1865 to the 1950s. (The majority of the sheet music in the collection is dated between 1900-1940.) Ms. Forward has passed on, but one of her former students has dedicated his website to posting both the MIDI version of the music from her collection and the original covers of the sheet music. The covers are strikingly gorgeous and much of the music is very lively and catchy. The music changes every month so you'll want to visit and re-visit this site.

The Penguin War is a wacky online comic book about a bunch of warrior penguins who seek to conquer the Earth in their own unique way. (Wait until you see how they kill the Russian president in a vodka factory.) The black and white drawings are crude but very easy to download.

7 Deadly Motivational Posters. Are you sick of seeing those black-matted motivational posters that are hung on the walls of many corporate offices across North America that feature a pretty nature photo and includes pretentious definitions to certain words (like "Success" or "Attitude" or "Teamwork") in a pretty gold-colored font? Then check out this site, which skewers those inane posters and also offer visitors the chance to download the gifs, print them out, and hang them in their own cubicles or offices (if they dare). One sample shows a photo of a large mansion with the word "GREED" in large letters with the following description: "Look at that house. Pretty nice, eh? You'd like to own something like that wouldn't you? Don't forget the reason you're working here. Money. It's not about doing a good job or showing up on time. Those are things you do to keep making money. Cash. Moolah."

Trailervision provides QuickTime trailers (or previews) of non-existent movies, like the one where Jar Jar Binks from the Star Wars movies meets the Blair Witch in The Jar Jar Binks Project. The trailers are hilarious and are even better than the trailers for real movies.

Web Pages That Suck. This site provides an excellent lesson in web page design by focusing on the horribly designed ones. Not only does the site name the offending pages, but also gives a thorough report on why the pages suck. I'm proud to say that The Unicorn With An Attitude has never been discussed on this site.

Web Trips Entertainment Network. This site requires Macromedia's Flash plug-in, but it's worth the extra effort to obtain it. (You can download a copy directly from Web Trips or Macromedia.) The animation is great and it is very funny. My personal favorite is "Little Billy Goes Hollywood."
