Adam's Hip Tip

When I do long division, I always remember the phrase "DRINK MY SODA CHARLIE BROWN." Each letter at the beginning of each word stands for a step in the long division process.

"Drink" stands for divide,
"
My" stands for multiply,
"
Soda" stands for subtract,
"
Charlie" stands for check, and
"
Brown" stands for bring-down.

Remember this simple saying, and you'll always remember the correct steps for long division!!!

Cal's Cool Trick

When I multiply numbers with a lot of zeros, I use this simple trick! Multiply the first two numbers of each complete number, then add the remaining zeros to your answer... Yippee!!!

Example:

20 x 30 = multiply the first two numbers... 2 x 3 = 6,
then add the two zeros... your answer is
600.

400 x 600 = multiply the first two numbers... 4 x 6 = 24,
then add the zeros...
240,000.

It's easy and quick!
