Dr.
Christie was and continues to be the only individual
authorized by the Gutmann family to provide information on
BPG's life and works.
As an
early admirer of her work, information on her life was
almost non-existent. Therefore years of research was done
including interviews with the family and many trips to
various archives for information. In 1990, Bessie Pease
Gutmann:Her Life and Works was published by
Wallace-Homestead Book Company of Radnor, Pennsylvania.
Victor Christie's years of research was finally materialized
in this now out-of-print book. Bessie's illustrator artwork
is continuing to gain appreciation with yet another
generation of admirers.
Dad is a
retired 'Superintendent of Schools'. Well if you call
running a home based business and taking care of 4 cats...
retired ! He lives in PA and spends a great deal of time
searching for Gutmanns and writing. His catolog originally
issued in 1987 and is now available as the Gutmann and
Gutmann Artists 4th edition with new revisions and finds on
Gutmann, Grimball and Doench. Also included are other G
& G artists: Bernhard Gutmann, Valentine Sandberg and
George White.
I have
recently taken a position as a Special Education Teacher for
Prince William County Public Schools. I am living in
Manassas, Virginia. I buy and sell the artwork of Harrison
Fisher, Atkinson Fox and M. A. Parkinson. I also buy and
sell celluloid boxes from the turn of the
century.
Please
feel free to contact either of us and we wish you all the
best in the search for the beautiful work of Bessie Pease
