Photo Album (Week Twenty-Five: Marathon Day!)

Page 2: First Half

It took me a while to figure out why I took a photo of these random strangers at the starting line.

Then, I recognized a familiar face jumping up and down behind the crowd . . . that's my sister, Susan, waving her shoes in the air.

One down, 25.2 to go!

This is the Baltimore Aquarium and the inner harbor. I soon realized that scenery shots were not going to be as much fun as pictures of the runners, so there won't be many more . . . I promise.

This is our first family cheering stop! Susan and Emily's family were waiting for us between Mile 5 and 6.

Here's that same spot from Susan's perspective!

Emily and her husband, Dan, share a wistful goodbye glance. It's OK, we'll see them again soon!

This is the first time we got to see my parents on the course. My dad hurries over from the payphone (at left).

Greg runs over for high-fives from my mom . . .

. . . while I prefer a good-luck hug!

I'm not sure exactly where this photo was taken, but I think it was right before the 7-mile marker. I don't think anyone can tell the difference anyway!

Ditto for this photo. There are no distinguishing features, but if you live in that house, please write me and tell me where we are.

Well, there's no question about where this one was taken. Hot Damn, it's almost heaven!

Here's my favorite sister just after Mile 11. She was picking up little presents for me all along the course. Wait until you see the pile of gifts she accumulated by the time I reached the finish line!

None of us were feeling great by this point. The hills were murder and, though we're all still smiling, Greg is looking decidedly limpy here.

As we approached this spot on the course, Emily called out, "OVERPASS!" As you may know, we spent much of our training on overpasses, waving to cars on the highways below and trying to get them to honk at us. You don't have to tell me we're weird.

Here, Greg is disappointed to see that there were no cars coming :(

We're so close to half-way that I can almost taste it!
