The History of Parkville Post 183

 
 
1945     Post formed at Gene Davis'  club basement. 
 
1946     Meetings in Kilchenstein's Hall. 
 
1946     Received it's charter, name of "Parkville Post" and "#183".  
 
1947     Meetings in Willard's Building (1st Bingo). 
 
1947     Post first made "Four Star". 
 
1948     Meetings in Harry Bleakey's Garage. 
 
1949     Meetings held in the basement of Emerald Tavern.  
 
1949     1st Post Bingo.  
 
1950     Post Incorporated.  
 
1951     Search for permanent Post Home began.  
 
1955     Land for Post Home purchased.  
 
1955     Post dedicated Parkville War Memorial on Taylor Avenue
 
1956     1st issue of the Patter Parade was published. 
 
1957     Moved to present Post Home 2301 Miller Avenue. (now Putty Hill Avenue). 
 
1957     Eugene Davis named as "First Live Member" & "Honorary Post Commander". 
 
1957     1st affair held in new Post Home - Installation of Officers. 
 
1957     1st Dance held at Post Home. 
 
1959     Volunteers were requested for Christmas Tree sales at Memorial Stadium. 
 
1963     Preamble donated by Ladies Auxiliary. 
 
1963     Cannon received from ship sunk by the Cruiser Baltimore in Manilla Bay. 
 
1963     Past Commander's Club formed. 
 
1964     1st "Blood Donor" day. 
 
1965     The "Paid Up" Mortgage papers were placed in a helmet and destroyed. 
 
1971     1st "Back to God" program conducted. 
 
1976     1st "Law and Order" program conducted. 
 
1978     1st "Investor's Club" began. (now referred to as "Super 1000 Raffle". 
 
1981     National Commander's Banquet held in Post Home. 
 
1987     "Avenue of Flags" was installed on Putty Hill Avenue in front of Post Home. 
 
1988     1st "War and Remembrance" night conducted. 
 
1993     Honorary Life Membership Club formed. 
 
1995     50th Anniversary celebrating the end of World War II. 
 
1995     The two M114A2, 155mm Towed Howitzers placed in front of Post Home. 
 
1995     Parkville Post became the "2nd Largest Post in the World". 
 
1997     1st year for Parkville Post 183 Website. 
 
1998     Regained "Four Star" status. 
2002     National Commander's Banquet held in Post Home. 
 
2006     Parkville Post became the "3rd Largest Post in the World".
