IDENTITY THEFT

If you suspect Identity Theft here are some of the things that you should do:

1) be extra vigilant and carefully monitor bank statements, credit card accounts, and any statement relating to recent financial transactions; and

2) if you suspect suspicious activity, request credit reports from Equifax (1-800-525-6285), Experian (1-888-397-3742), or TransUnion (1-800-680-7289), Close any account that has been tampered with or opened fraudulently, File a police report with your local police, and File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission on their Hot Line number (1-877-438-4338).

You may also post a Fraud Alert in your credit file and this will last for 90 days. A Fraud Alert will require Credit Card companies to contact you before a new credit card account can be created. You can call any of the credit reporting companies noted in item 2) above and they are supposed to contact the other two.
