Family Support Network

Let's all be thankful that the surge in Iraq is succeeding. We are witnessing a decline in the number of suicide bombers, roadside explosives, and deaths among the civilian population. More importantly to us here at home, we give special thanks that our soldiers now have almost one hundred percent control over their own destiny. With the Iraqi forces taking over more and more control of their own security, our troops are suffering less and less casualties. Hopefully, we may be able to see our troops returning home as the war winds down and we emerge victoriously.

However, until there is complete withdrawal, the Family Support Network program will continue to gather comfort items, phone cards, etc. for the Care Packages. Cash donations will continue to be accepted (tax deductible) to purchase items and pay postage for the mailings. We will also continue to participate in deployments and homecoming ceremonies.

The Wetlands Golf Shop (located 740 Gilbert Rd., Aberdeen, MD 410-273-7681) has offered to donate One Dollar ($1.00) to the Family Support Network for each "Never Bend Putter Grip" sold at their shop. The "Never Bend Putter Grip" is also a ball retriever that really works. You will never again have to bend down to retrieve your golf ball from the cup.

Thanks for your continued support and God bless our troops.

The American Legion's Family Support Network is ready to provide immediate assistance to service personnel and their families whose lives have been directly affected by Operation Iraqi Freedom and America's War on Terror.

Parkville Post #183 has been and is continuing to assist the service personnel and their families who are attached to the Ruhl Armory on York Rd. and the Parkville Armory on Putty Hill Ave.

We want to extend this assistance to individuals who might have fallen through the cracks. We need to reach out to them.

The American Legion National Headquarters has 24 hour nationwide toll-free telephone number for service members and their families who need assistance: 1(800)504-4098.

When calls are received at National Headquarters, they are referred to the American Legion Department in which the call originated. The information is relayed to a local American Legion Post. The local Post then contacts the service member or family to determine how assistance can be provided.

To accomplish our objective, it is requested that each of you, where ever you live, do what you can to pass this information on to service personnel and their families.
