John KAUFMAN
Greetings to all American Legion Post 183 members and our other family members, the Auxiliary Unit and the Sons of The American Legion Squadron. I don't know what happened to spring, but by the time you read this article we will be heading towards summer. Yes, another Legion Year is closing down and numerous activities have taken place since the last issue of The Patter Parade. For example, the St. Patrick's Day dance was a success and it was quickly followed up by a huge turn out for our annual traditional St. Pat's party. It quickly sold out, so next year come out early and have fun. Many thanks to all the volunteers that have made all of our social functions a pleasant outing to attend.
Plan to attend our Mother's Day Buffet breakfast on May 10th, time is from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. May 16th is Armed Forces day, another reason to take pride in being a Veteran. Join us at Frank's Preakness Party at the Post the same day. In addition, our annual Memorial Day Service is scheduled for Monday, May 25th at 9:00 am. Bring the grandchildren so they may observe a long standing tradition of the Post as we honor our fallen members. Refreshments will be served at the Post afterwards.
Membership Chairman Hank McQueeney reports we now have 2775 members.
Reporting for The Balladiers, we are sorry to note the death of Past Balladier Chairman, Richard Hefright. Dick was a Pearl Harbor Survivor. Condolences also go out to the families of Rita Trageser and Marge Seim. In addition, Richard Dix is in Manor Care Nursing Center. Thanks to The Balladiers for performing at our Open Meeting of March 25th, Post Everlasting and the upcoming Memorial Day Services.
At our May 13th meeting, we will hold Nominations of Officers for the 2009-2010 legion year. If you plan to run for office you must attend this meeting or have a Letter of Intent on file with the Post if you are unable to make this meeting. Elections will be held on June 6th. Come out and vote.
Proceeds from our Carnival (June 15th - 20th) and Carnival Raffle will go to our Scholarship Fund. Tickets and return envelopes will be mailed out shortly. Please support this worthy cause. Additional tickets are available by calling or visiting the Post. Remember this is your Post, please support it.
"Pay Down the Debt", needs some jump starting, returns are slow coming in. Thanks to all who have participated this year.
In closing, always remember our troops, those overseas and here in their own country. Keep them in your prayers and may God Bless them, you and your family, the Legion and the U.S.A.
Teamwork, Unity, Fraternity!
We will Never forget you...
