AMERICAN LEGION BOYS STATE PROGRAM
The American Legion believes there is no better way to assure the survival of our republic than to train our young people in the ideals and objective of American government. Boys/Girls State is a unique summertime educational program, that does not emphasize classroom lectures and textbook learning. Instead, it focuses on participation and personal experience in a model state, complete with governing bodies and elected public officials. It is designed to mirror the structure and operation of its respective state government.
Eligibility Guidelines:
Only students who have successfully completed their junior year in high school and not have entered their senior year of high school are to be considered.
Any candidate who has previously attended a Boys/Girls State is not eligible.
Applications may be obtained through the local high school class counselors. (The above excerpts from The American Legion Department Web Site)
*****************************************
Parkville Post has been proud to sponsor up to six candidates a year to Boys State. This year the Post sent six candidates once again. One of our candidates is an interesting case. Our Post and Auxiliary has sponsored five of his siblings to either Boys State or Girls State. They all credit their exposure to either Boys State or Girls State for the pursuit of their academic and military training.
If you know of any male or female that will finish their Junior year in High School, contact Joe McLeary from the Post or Carole Manzo from the Auxiliary. It may just change their life.
We will Never forget you...
