Oneda DONATO, President
Well, our Membership Chairman Carole Manzo did it again! By her determination and with the help of our members, our Unit won the "Golden Crab Award". This award is presented to the Unit who signs up the most new members that year, and this is the second year in a row that we were presented this recognition.
Betty Sobus and Marie Fray had the Americanism Essay winners, along with their families, friends, and teachers; attend our Unit meeting in March. Each student held everyone's attention as they read their essays. In April, Carole Manzo presented her Children and Youth program. She invited the Parkville Middle School - Silver Squires to sing for us. Everyone was at complete attention as the Squires' beautiful voices sang out. These meetings reminded all of us how proud we should be of our youth.
If you missed the banquet that was held in April for our National President Jan Pulvermacher-Ryan, you missed a wonderful affair that our Department President Cass Wheeler hosted. We were so proud to have the opportunity to greet our National President and proud that she choose to visit our Post Home.
The raffle for the painted plate that was donated by our member Ann Christensen was won by Marie Fray. We again thank Ann for all she has done for our Unit by her donations. Please note that our meeting on May 8th will start at DIFFERENT TIMES. We will start promptly at 7:30 pm so we can conduct our Business Meeting and Nominations for Officers. At 8:00 pm we will present the Poppy, Memorial, and Gold Star Programs. This will be an OPEN MEETING. Please try to attend as we honor our deceased Veterans and Unit members. We will also honor our Gold Star members who lost loved ones that served our Country.
It is time once again for our Memorial Day Ceremony. We will meet at the Moreland Park Cemetery on Monday, May 26th at 8:30 AM. Come join the Unit, Post and SAL members as we honor all who served and sacrificed for our freedom.
We still need members to make our Unit once again a "Gold Unit". So please, please, ask your friends or relatives to come in or send in their Unit dues.
