Abstract:

This system dynamics simulation was developed to investigate the relationships inherent in the training of Marine Corps officers, from accession through arrival in the fleet. Ground and air training paths are included. The model represents the service academies, OCS, TBS, MOS schools, and the entire aviation training pipeline. All primary points of leverage throughout the system may be manipulated by the user to investigate effects of interest. The effort was performed for Headquarters Marine Corps in 1997. Facilitated sessions with subject matter experts were used to draw out the systemic information necessary to construct the simulation. Several learning laboratories were conducted to introduce the simulation while it was being developed, hence reducing training time. The model is built in PowerSim.
