Beltsville Strategy Games Club

The first weekly meeting of the Beltsville Strategy Games Club was held on Monday, July 1, 2002. It was founded by John Goon of Rockville MD to provide a safe environment for children and adults to learn and enjoy strategy games of all varieties. These games are included in the club inventory: Chess; Go; Magic the Gathering; Rummikub; Mancala; Othello; Carcassonne (basic and 1st expansion); Castle Panic; Race for the Galaxy; Village; London; Power Grid; Ticket to Ride; Lost Cities; Cartagena; O Zoo le Mio; Kahuna; Carcassonne Castle; Balloon Cup; Clans; Bohnanza; TransAmerica; Fluxx; Klondike; Coloretto; Kings Breakfast; and Acquire. The club is free and open to all.

Location, Date and Time

The Beltsville Community Center, 3900 Sellman Road, Beltsville MD 20705.  Center phone: 301-937-6613. Every Monday evening, from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm.

Directions (Use www.mapquest.com for a map to the Center)

From the U of M College Park, go north on Route 1 towards Beltsville. Just before the Beltway, turn LEFT onto Cherry Hill Road. Travel for about 1 mile and turn RIGHT onto Sellman Road. Sellman Road has some sharp curves so be careful here. About a half mile on Sellman, you should see a sign for the Community Center on the LEFT. Turn into the entrance and the building is a quarter mile ahead.

From Beltsville North and Laurel, take Route 1 (Baltimore Avenue) south and turn RIGHT on Montgomery Road (just past the RI Avenue intersection and the Shell gas station). Stay on Montgomery and turn LEFT at the 4-Stop Sign intersection. That will put you on Sellman Road. The Community Center will be on your RIGHT about 1/2 mile ahead. Look for the sign.

Etc.

We have a strong need for young and old volunteers to help teach the games to new members and the inquisitive public. For further information, please contact John Goon at spineyone@yahoo.com.
