Have you seen the artwork on the cover of Alexandria's 250th Anniversary Visitors Guide? If so then you're already familiar with the work of locally-based artist Barbara Januszkiewicz. As part of the city's 250th anniversary celebration Alexandria is saluting this Januszkiewicz by including some of her watercolors of Old Town in this year's Visitors Guide. An award winning artist and filmmaker/TV producer, Januszkiewicz's artwork is currently represented in both public and private collections. Her works have also been featured in film and in cable and international television programs. When asked her goal as a painter, Barbara expresses a desire to maintain the purity and freshness of color with boldness and sensitivity.

"My work grows as a result of experimentation with approaches, material and techniques," she says. "In this spirit of experimentation I have found I enjoy the moments to express myself with color, lines and shapes. I find true freedom in placing paint on paper."

Not restricted to the canvas, Barbara is a true multimedia artist highly recognized for efforts to improve regional community involvement and art through her Washington DC area cable television program "Creative Vision, Visiting The Artmakers". As Executive Producer Barbara has helped expose the DC area to the wealth of fine art being produced in the community by highlighting regional artists' lives and exploring artistic themes.

"My goal with Creative Vision," she explains, "is to foster community involvement, heighten art awareness, and educate others on the creative process. With this project we've developed a uniquely educational cable series that uses the half-hour public access television format to showcase visual artists and their art works. Public access is a vehicle which can show the vast cultural diversity of the artists who live and work in this area. Every level of this production is a work of art for me."
