Ceresota Flour, Theodore Zapach Barn . Watercolor . 12" x 16"

Interesting story... There were several coats of paint over this old barn. The last coat was a latex paint, that had begun to peel. As the latex came off, earlier layers of paint pulled with it, revealing a ghost of an original Ceresota Flour ad. Zapach, stripped the top coats to fully expose his surprise discovery. He hired a painter to restore it & I believe that person repainted the figure at the lower right & did the major re-lettering. Zapach then finished the upper left figure, re-painted the rest of the barn & added personal touches, such as the scroll containing all his family members' names.

This original watercolor painting, sold at auction on November16, 2003, at the Spinnersville Hotel, Spinnerstown, Pa... benefit the Children's Developmental Program of Quakertown.
