Micki

I got to the gate of heaven yesterday after we said goodbye.
I began to miss you terribly, because I heard you cry.
Suddenly there was an angel and she asked me to enter heaven's gate.
I asked her if I could stay outside for someone who'd be late.
I wouldn't make much noise you see, I wouldn't bark or howl,
I'll only wait here patiently and play with my tennis ball.
The angel said I could stay right here and wait for you to come
Because heaven just wouldn't be heaven if I went in alone.
So I'll wait here, you take your time, but keep me in your heart.
Because heaven just wouldn't be heaven without you to warm my heart.

We'll meet again Mick, at the Rainbow Bridge

It was Christmas Eve 1984 when I first met Micki at a shelter in New Jersey. She was young and small and she was in a cage with what seemed like a dozen other young and small dogs. But she sat at attention and in her eyes I seemed to see her saying "Pick Me! Pick Me!" I knew she was meant for me from that moment on and it was probably one of the best choices I ever made. For 17+ years after that day, Micki was the best companion anyone could ask for. I think she even had the 9 lives of a cat since the veterinary professionals counted her out on the 1st, 4th, 7th, 12th and 15th years of her life. At 15 they said she wouldn't live another 6 months, and when she crossed over peacefully a few months after her 17th year, it was she who finally made that choice.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge
That connects Heaven and Earth. It is called Rainbow Bridge
Because of its many colors. On this side there are meadows,
hills, and valleys with lush green grass
For all our special friends so they can run and play together.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here
That animal goes to Rainbow Bridge. There is always plenty of food
And Water and Sunshine, and Warm Spring Weather.
The old and frail animals are young again.
Those who are maimed or abused are made whole again.
They play all day with each other.

There is only one thing missing. They are not with their special person
Who loved them on Earth. Each day they run and play until the day comes
When one suddenly stops playing and looks up!
The nose twitches!
The ears to up!
The eyes stare brightly!
And this one suddenly runs from the group!

You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet again
You take him/her into your arms and embrace.
Your face is licked again and again and again,
And you look once more into the eyes of your trusting friend.

And then you cross the Rainbow Bridge Together
Never again to be separated.
