Music for Band & Strings Together
                                (Mixed Groups)

The following pieces are designed for groups of band & strings together at the beginning level.  Since strings start in sharps and bands start in flats, we developed a format that allows that to happen.  These pieces allow the srings to play in sharps while the band instruments are tacet and then allow the band to play in flats while the strings are tacet.  This is the set up for the "2 key" designation.  We have developed this further to allow the addition of a third section consisting of F horns, flutes, and percussion playing in concert F.  These are designated as "3 key."

Here is what we have so far:

These pieces also come with easy piano accompaniments.

Note:  Mixing strings and band instruments can allow for more flexibility in scheduling and sometimes helps prevent uwise transfers from a strings to a band instrument and vice versa just because a student wants to be with friends.  It also expands the student's musical experience by having a wider variety of instruments in the class.  You can even use two different method books and work back and forth with two groups.  However, we have been working on a method book which works for all groups including mixed band and strings.  It is entitled 21 Classical Tunes for the Classroom and the Concert Hall

Note:  Many of our band compositions include string parts.  These are non-essential parts and are in the same key as the band (usually Bb).  They are also very usable with mixed band & string groups (fingerings are easy . . . just use low 1, low 2 and "stretch" for 3).  See our Band Catalog listings for these compositions.
