George William Moore, MD, PhD, an anatomic pathologist,
lives in northeast Baltimore.
Dr. Moore was born in Detroit, Michigan, on August 28, 1945,
the first child of the late Mr. George Warren Moore
and the late Mrs. Gwendolyn Jeanne Moore.
He has one brother, James Michael Moore, and one sister,
Kathleen Elizabeth Moore.
Dr. Moore was baptized on April 14, 1946
at the North Woodward Congregational Church, Detroit, MI.
He grew up in Highland Park, MI, a Detroit suburb, where
he was educated in public schools: Henry Ford Elementary School
and Highland Park High School. He graduated at the top of his class
from Highland Park High School in 1963.
Between 1957 and 1963, Dr. Moore was a chorus boy soprano,
later alto and tenor, at The Cathedral Church of Saint Paul (Episcopal).
He participated as a chorus boy soprano in a performance
by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in 1959 of George Bizet's Carmen
under the baton of the late Paul Paray.
Dr. Moore attended the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI,
where he majored in Cellular Biology, and received a B.S. in 1967.
Dr. Moore was a chorus tenor in the Michigan Choral Union during those years.
He participated as a chorus tenor in a performance of Igor Stravinsky's
Rite of Spring, performed at the University of Michigan in 1966,
under the baton of the late Mr. Stravinsky.
Dr. Moore was a coauthor on his first medical scientific publication
while he was an undergraduate at the University of Michigan,
the beginning of a career of medical-scientific publications
which exceeds
180 papers in peer-reviewed scholarly journals.
Dr. Moore attended North Carolina State University at Raleigh, NC,
where he received a Ph.D. in Biomathematics in 1971.
Dr. Moore was a chorus tenor in the Raleigh Choral Society
during those years, as well as a chorus tenor
at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church.
He participated as a chorus tenor in a performance
of Leonard Bernstein's Chichester Psalms, sung in Hebrew,
by the Raleigh Choral Society in 1969.
Dr. Moore was married on April 18, 1971, at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church,
to the former Barbara Lynne Struble.
The Moores have two sons: Geoffrey Walter Moore (b. 1974) and
Gregory Vincent Wayne Moore (b. 1980).
Dr. Moore spent a year of postdoctoral work,
under the supervision of the late Dr. Walter Sandritter,
at the University of Freiburg,
Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany, in 1971-1972.
Dr. Moore attended Wayne State University School of Medicine,
Detroit, MI, where he received an M.D. in 1976.
Dr. Moore served as intern and assistant resident in Anatomic Pathology
at The Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions between 1976-1981,
and was certified in Anatomic Pathology in 1981,
by the American Board of Pathology.
Dr. Moore served as assistant professor of pathology
at The Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions between 1981-1989,
where he began a career in pathology informatics spanning over two decades.
In 1989, Dr. Moore accepted an appointment as associate professor
at the University of Maryland School of Medicine,
while continuing his teaching appointment as visiting assistant professor
at The Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions.
Dr. Moore serves as Staff Pathologist in the
Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service of the
Baltimore Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Dr. Moore has been a regular attender at
the Episcopal Church of Christ the King, Woodlawn, MD,
where he sings as a chorus tenor in the church choir,
and where he has assisted with the church's Internet activities.
Dr. Moore is the second author of an Internet textbook of Pathology,
The Lightning Hypertext of Pathology, with Dr. Jules J. Berman.
Dr. Moore is an amateur linguist, who is fluent in German,
but has an amateur interest in Latin, Japanese, and Turkish.
