I am a medical researcher with a special interest in cell biology and anti-aging medicine. For several years I have worked with cultures of fibroblasts, the key cell type in the skin. Fibroblasts are responsible for creating and maintaining structural strength and integrity of the skin, which includes production of collagen, elastin and other important stuctural molecules. Work with fibroblasts and my profound interest in anti-aging medicine (along with some encouragement from female members of my family) lead me investigate and analyze the existing methods for preventing and reversing the signs of skin aging, such as wrinkles, roughness, discoloration, etc., and use my findings to evaluate the merits (or lack thereof) of the cosmetic products on the market. I based my analysis on the studies done by independent scientific institutions and published in respected biomedical journals. As we know from the history of tobacco companies and many other examples, a study of the product performed by its manufacturer represents a conflict of interests and in many cases cannot be trusted. I found that only a fraction of anti-aging skin care products contains ingredient that are at least potentially useful for skin rejuvenation. Even those products often contain insufficient concentrations or ineffective form of a useful ingredient. Some of the ingedients in cosmetics may even be harmful -- not just to your wallet but to your skin as well. Most consumers are unaware of that they may be wasting money and not getting optimal skin care. Even when they find the right product, people often misuse it due to a lack of information on proper usage or storage. (For instance, this is often the case for vitamin C-based products). For most people, best results are achieved with a few cost-free youth-maintenance techniques and two or three wisely selected products. There is no need for a "long line" of expensive cosmetics in your bathroom cabinet or on your credit card bill. In creating this site, my goal is to help you make smart choices in your skin care and take as much years off your face as nature and modern science allow. I am not affiliated with any skin care company, nor am I promoting or selling any particular products. Questions? Send e-mail to Dr. Todorov at: gtodorov@erols.com |
