Graphic Design encompasses all aspects of everyday life from environmental design to the creation of fashion wearables. Everything needs to be designed. Although I have been involved in the Arts since I was a child, I have been fortunate to have been exposed to technology at the dawn of the PC computer age as well as having a fascination with color reproduction, design, and production. Working at Bell Laboratories gave me the opportunity to experiment with these interests. Because of my early work in this field in 1995, I was asked to give a presentation to an audience of approximately 300 engineers, scientists, researchers, and artists regarding the options in digital printing. My presentation "Pixels, Lines and Dots, Oh My" was received extremely well. I have continued to follow emerging techniques and technologies in regards to media delivery. This education is reinforced with my teaching of Graphic Design 2, Computer-assisted Illustration, Typography, Page and Cover Design, etc... since 1990. Since that time, I have had the opportunity to work on some unusual projects including developing a 3D stereogram for the Bell Laboratories Museum, extremely large digital output with environmentally tolerant inks, and experimental prepress output. My color consultation was noted in 2 scientific books "The Elements of Graphing Data" and "Visualizing Data" both written by Bill Cleveland. I also created artwork for the movie industry placing a 30' Lucent logo on a sail of a racing sailboat in the United Artist film "A Thomas Crown Affair" Graphic design is how I can express the way I view the world... and hopefully make a living at the same time. <Twin Tears (version 2) A memorial logo to express a feeling I just can't seem to do with words. This graphic is free to use for any and all noncommercial purposes which benefits the efforts of the Twin Towers tragedy. (Illustrator file is available free by downloading here) BTW: I've have been asked "where are the tears"...I know it is subtle, you should notice them in the negative space of the flames. |
