Frequently Asked Questions
Is
Love
Remembered
a sequel to The
Light in the Darkness?
It’s set in the same time and place, and the main characters from Darkness do make a brief
appearance, but it’s not a sequel.
Is
Isn't
it Romantic? a sequel to All
I Ever Wanted?
Well,
sort of. It’s probably more
accurate to call it “loosely connected.”
A secondary character, Tiffani, is present in both books; they’re
both set in Swift Creek, Virginia; and there’s another fun connection
involving Farthest Space, Max’s science fiction series.
But you won’t see Drew and Max in Isn’t It Romantic?
And
how does Farthest Space relate to those books?
Farthest Space: The Wrath of Jan
(from the Tripping Through the Universe anthology) is a futuristic
spoof based on the book series written by Max Sinclair of All I Ever
Wanted, and the TV show starring Kip Stanton of Isn’t It
Romantic? Are you confused yet?
Are
you going to write a sequel to Never
Love a Stranger?
I’d like to. I’m a bit
tied up with other stories right now, but I do intend to write a story
with Susan Takahashi as the heroine and Gar as the hero.
Eventually.
Have
you written any series?
The Shadows of Night,
my upcoming Samhain
release, will be the first book in a paranormal shapeshifter series called
Kindred.
Which of your books are
available in paperback?
You
can find Love Remembered, Never Love a Stranger, and Tripping
Through the Universe in trade paperback, either on the NCP
website, Amazon, or www.barnesandnoble.com.
They’re all available at
Waldenbooks and Borders nationwide—if you don’t see them on the
shelves, you can order them. None
of my other NCP books are currently scheduled for paperback release, but
if that changes, I’ll post the information on my website.
You
started out writing historical romances.
Are you planning on writing any more?
Not at this time. My
current career plan is to split my writing between contemporaries and
futuristic/paranormal romances. There
just isn’t enough of a market for historicals set in colonial Virginia!
Did
you write a second historical romance for Bantam called Temporary
Mistress?
No,
no, a thousand times no. This is a “phantom” book that has
haunted me since 1999. Amazon still has it listed, despite the
numerous times I’ve asked them to remove it from their site, but there
is no such book and never was. I never wrote a book called Temporary
Mistress—its correct title is Love
Remembered,
and it was published by NCP in 2003.
What
is an e-book, anyway?
An electronic book is just what it sounds like—a book published
only in electronic format instead of printed onto a lot of dead trees.
Yes, paper-and-ink books have been around for centuries, and
we’re all used to them, but e-books are actually a lot less wasteful.
In order to get my books, you can go to the publishers’ websites
or Fictionwise and
download the book. Then you
read it at your computer. But,
you object, reading at the computer strains your eyes.
Oh, come on—count up the number of minutes you already spend at
the computer daily checking your e-mails and surfing your favorite
websites, and you’ll realize reading at the computer doesn’t really
bother you all that much. Or
you could buy a handheld reading device, such as a Palm Pilot or an
Ebookwise, if you like to carry a book around with you.
Aren’t
all e-books badly written?
Well, obviously I don’t think so:-).
Admittedly the quality can vary from publisher to publisher,
and from author to author, although in my opinion the overall quality of e-books
has gone up drastically in the past few years. NCP and Samhain both have
some of the best authors in e-publishing (quite a few of whom have also
written for New York publishers). It’s
important to remember that e-publishing is no longer truly a “new
concept”-- NCP will be ten years old in 2006, and a lot of books from
major publishers are now being released as e-books as well as paperbacks.
And a long, long list of e-published authors have been picked up by
major publishers, so there is obviously a lot of talent in the
e-publishing world. But before
you buy an e-book, always read the excerpt—it’s the equivalent of
thumbing through a paper book to see if you like it.
You can see all of my released books, including excerpts, here.
You’ve
written a lot of novellas lately. Are
you going to write a full novel any time soon?
Very probably. In 2005 I
had a baby (my fourth!), which cut back on my writing time a bit.
But I’m getting back to a more full-time writing schedule, which
will allow me to work on some bigger projects.
And I’m done having babies!
How
can I get a copy of The
Light in the Darkness?
It’s out of print. Go to Amazon
or check used bookstores.
Who
designed this web site?
My multi-talented, gorgeously handsome, and extraordinarily patient
husband, Don, designed and built the site with constant input (i.e.
harassment) from me.
What
are these flowers on your website?
The four-petaled, white flowers are dogwood blossoms, and they’re
the state flower of Virginia. The
bars and buttons are courtesy of Bimsan.
