Fletie "Georgia" GEORGE Allen

Age 68, suddenly on June 13, 2005, of Alexandria, VA. She was the beloved wife of Stuart Allen; devoted mother of Dale Allen. Also survived by many adoring nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and Hope George; her sister, Nancy Arnold and brother, Ray George.

John Fielding SULLIVAN

Died Monday, November 29, 2004. Born in Alexandria, VA, he had been a Northern Virginia resident until moving to Hampton, VA in 2001. While in Northern Virginia, John retired as life insurance agent in 1998 after 42 years. He first worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, then retired from American General Life Insurance Company. His love for the water and working with children led him to the Alexandria Boat Club in Alexandria where he was a Crew Coach for 15 years. With his many friendships and a knack for negotiation, he was responsible for developing Crew Teams for several different high schools across the state, including the Woodbridge Program. He was also a Scout Master for many years. He is survived by his wife, Sally; his three children, two step-sons, seven grandchildren, two sisters and 1 brother. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated 7 p.m. Friday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Newport News, VA. The family wishes, in lieu of flowers, any expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the OLMC Church Building Fund, 100 Harpersville Rd., Newport News, VA 23601. Arrangements are being provided by R. HAYDEN SMITH FUNERAL HOME in Hampton, VA.

Julian 'Jay' BOLTON

Julian T. "Jay" Bolton, 66, a retired civilian Navy cartographer who had been president of the Virginia division of the Izaak Walton League conservation group since 2002, died of congestive heart failure Feb. 17 at his home in Centreville. Mr. Bolton had lived in Centreville since the early 1970s.He was a native of Washington and a 1955 graduate of George Washington High School in Alexandria. He attended Shepherd College in West Virginia and a predecessor school of the University of the District of Columbia. Mr. Bolton was a cabdriver in Washington in the 1960s. From 1968 until retiring in 1987, he was a technician and cartographer for the Naval Oceanographic Office. Mr. Bolton also was a national director for the Izaak Walton League. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, the Mount Olive Civic Association, the Moose, and Cool Spring United Methodist Church in Delaplane, Va. His marriage to the former Elaine Robinson ended in divorce. Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Virginia Lee Bolton of Centreville; a daughter from his first marriage, Jennifer Duckworth of New Carrollton; a daughter from his second marriage, Catherine Bolton of Centreville; a stepdaughter, Patricia Huppmann of Fredericksburg; two brothers; a sister; and a granddaughter.


Barbara Bowling Lyons 

Barbara (wife of our classmate Stanley Lyons), passed away in Boston Friday Feb., 21, after spending six months being treated there for a kidney condition.  She had been ill for the past several years and was in remission at Christmas.   Barbara was a GWHS '59 grad. She will be sorely missed.

Ethel Blaine

Ethel passed away on Saturday, October 13, 2001, at INOVA Fairfax Hospital. Loving mother of Richard Bernard Koger, Michael Thomas Koger; Debra Lee Garcia and the late Cathleen Lynn DelMonte; sister of Ernest Blaine, Jr., Esther and John Blaine. Also survived by five grandchildren and one great- grandchild. A Gathering of Remembrance will be held on Friday, October 19 from 7 to 9 p.m. at DEMAINE SPRINGFIELD-ANNANDALE CHAPEL, Backlick and Edsall Rds., Springfield, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northern Virginia, 9300 Lee Highway, 5th Floor, Fairfax, VA.

Shirley passed away on Monday, May 7, 2001 of Alexandria, VA. Beloved wife of the late John P. Walters. Survived by one sister, Helen Booterbaugh and one brother, Kenneth Hart. Friends may call on Wednesday, May 9, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at EVERLY WHEATLEY FUNERAL HOME, 1500 W. Braddock Rd., Alexandria, VA, where services will be held on Thursday, May 10 at 2 p.m. Interment Mount Comfort Cemetery.
