Knock Knock who's there?  Kilroy was here!

Jonas Salk, Miltown and the first Midas Muffler shop...
Hula hoops and Barbie dolls,
what ever happened to Randolph Scott ?

Glenn and Tommy taught us swing, Fats had a blueberry taste...
Old Hank and Patsy made us hurt,Elvis was naughty below the waist.

Tuesday night, Greek nite, pins and sweaters
Car hops, fender skirts, crusin' in any weather.

Sigma, Delta, Kappa and so many more...

AVO, and Barrons all trying to score.

Del Ray drug store, Gibsons and Hot Shoppes
Cool cats in peg pants and pretty girls in bobby sox

Boat club dancing, jitterbug and strolling,
Blue suede shoes and crinolines flowing.

Maine Avenue, Cy Ellis', Hogates and rum buns...
Oysters, suds, chug-a-lug and Tums.

Ocean City, Reno's and Milt Grants bandstand...
Casino Royal, 823, Aldo’s, Smittys and Rands.

How many times after the dance, did we go "down the boulevard" and park?
And on occasion, we were late getting home all… because the car wouldn't start.

Goodby... Sadie Hawkins, “B” lunch, Seniors Day
and GW Del.
Hello...work force, college and for many...
wedding bells.

Buddy leaves and takes Peggy Sue... as the fifties slip away.
And we're not ready for the “grassy knoll”...
body bags,  and purple haze.

The wall went up the curtain came down,
Eastern Europe was one big frown.

The Beatles arrived their music so new
and harmonies from way out there...
If one looked closely, their clothes were strange
and so, was their hair.

Race riots in Watts, I Have A Dream
and assassinations came in threes...
The troops kept going,
and the country kept burning,
as we watched it all on TV.

Ray Kroc came to town and built golden arches of steel...
And then, he charged us forty five cents...
all for a three course meal.

And there was Lucy with diamonds so bright,
urging us to take flight...
And along comes Puff the Magic Dragon,
who, joined our boys in fight.

Johnny was dreaming of California
when the leaves were turning brown...
They really nailed us to the wall and man what a sound.

Woodstock saw the sixties end with mud up to our ass.
We walked on the moon; Lyndon slipped away,
Nobody could sing like Mama Cass

Enter the seventies with Zeppelins of lead
and bell-bottoms so wide...
Tricky Dick was in deep doo-doo...
and had no where to hide

Watergate... Oh what a trial.
Sam had so much to say...
While, we were trying to figure out
the 'expletive deleted' of the day.

I'm not a crook, 3-Mile island;
Alice was way to weird...

Saturday Nite fever, The thriller in Manila,
JAWS was really feared.

The image of the Embassy in Saigon...
burns forever in our mind.
How can we ever forget...
the  boys we left behind?

The King from Memphis couldn't just say no,
made a very bad choice.
And all of a sudden... although, with warning...
he totally lost his voice

The seventies ended... with no yellow ribbons...
Iran had become a jinx.
The rescue would fail, The Bee Gees were singing...
and Jim Jones was mixing drinks.

Poor Jimmy left the Hill
and went back to his peanut farm.
In rides Ronnie, on The 20 Mule Team
and Nancy on his arm.

Cabbage Patch, Happy Meals,
who in the hell shot JR ?
The hostages are freed, the Pope was shot
and DeLorean made his last car.

John got blown away by someone very mean.
I can imagine he would rather have left...
on his yellow submarine

Beautiful Lady DI marries Chuckie..
Whom many considered a bore.
Suddenly...millions of men had hope,
that they too could score.

There's a hole in the ozone, Crack is here
and AIDS makes its debut.
And some sonofabitch bombs 103 over Lockerbie

The Challenger went up with 7 aboard...
Lift off was quite a sight.
The nation looked on in total shock...
when learned it was their last flight.

The eighties end with Ronnie growing dim, but,
riding very tall...
He had fired the controllers and yelled at Gorby,
"Tear down that wall."

The USSR throws Lenin out.
Marion gets caught smoking dope.

And the state troopers are supplying girls
to a guy named Willie from Hope.

Nelson is free after 27 years
and returns with dignity and grace.
The Redskins went to the big show
and ended up in first place.

Once again we had to go and kick some ass
on a foreign soil.
Desert Storm was one big success...
all in the name of oil

The surgeon general, long ago proclaimed -
smoking leaves a scar...
And along comes Bill and gives that woman...
Ms. Lewinsky, a cigar.

“There is a right wing conspiracy plan,”
said the First Lady, with a frown.
While Bill's idea of safe sex...
is when Hillary...is out of town.

Princess Di has gone away
I wish she could have stayed...
And my hero old Joltin' Joe
has also gone away

Do you remember when revenge...
was a spitball to the head ?
Now, the kids come to school
and shoot their classmates dead!

The Prince of the City, father of “George”
took off in weather so bad.
Can we ever forget the image of him
in a farewell salute to his dad ?

And somewhere in a far off land
a Sopwith Camel leaves the ground...
And, as Snoopy flies for one last time,
he yells out...“Goodbye Charlie Brown.”

The  Surveyor

So, who are we, the children of the fifties;
who have been through so much stuff ?
We are sons and daughters of a special breed;
who were also pretty damn tuff.

Our Moms and Dads survived the Great Depression
and took on a world changing fast.
And then, as Rosie and GI Joe, they made Tanks
and kicked…. Hitler's ass.

So check us out and look at our deeds
and see what we leave behind.
One must be impressed, because most of this stuff
will simply…   blow your mind.

United Nations, Computers, Transistors, and Dr. Spock...
Breaking the sound barrier, cleaning our rivers
and cloning Dolly for the flock.

Rock and Roll, Mini Skirts, Women's Lib
and The Sexual revolution...
Fiber optics, weather satellites, Medicare
and global education.

Earth day, The Pill, Civil rights
and the first heart transplant...
Laser beams, blue jeans,
and new clean water treatment plants

Mt. Everest was scaled, space explored,
Polio and small pox disappear...
War on poverty, peace in the world,
and the bomb is much less feared.

Alaska and Hawaii became states,
and Clean Air became an Act.
Catch 22, The Peace Corps, PC’s
and meals with no fat.

Miranda Rights, Fitness movement
and 911 for an emergency call.
We ended the draft, fed the world and….
Tore down that wall

And along the way we raised our sons,
with dirty little necks and crewcut heads.
And beautiful daughters with dangling curls.
Both were the pride of Mom and Dad.

Den Mothers, Soccer Moms,
driving kids in all kinds of weather.
Dads of steel, coaching their teams
and kissing boo-boos and making them all better.

Five decades of family and friends,
with events both happy and sad.
We have survived a lot of changes.
Some good and some kinda bad.

We've been up and knocked down;
lost some battles and been pinned to the ropes.
And make no mistake… it was hard….
but, we never gave up… and always had hope.

We listen to bullshit and rhetoric, too.
But, don't tell us - you feel our pain.
We've been there done that and guess what?
We invented the saying - no pain, no gain.

Senior Olympics, 5-mile k’s, breaking 80,
or, just a walk in the park.
Traveling the globe, going back to school, new careers,
don't call us old farts

We love the kids and grandchildren too,
and enjoy every minute with them.
But we're spending their inheritance
and doing stuff, sometimes on a whim.

So, as we take it to the next level, and look forward to the future with cheers...
Let's not forget old GW high,
and the friendships of  so many years.

So, look around and see your friends...
Man, what a beautiful sight.
Would the last person left standing,
please turn off the lights.

It ain’t over ‘til it’s over!
