What is H.M. Heralds?

What is? -- H.M. Heralds.  H.M.Heralds is an independent Renaissance Historical Reenactment performance troupe (Guild) that recreates the excitement and fanfare of Royal Court Trumpeters.  We have performed for the newly reborn Virginia Renaissance Faire produced by Out of the Woodwork Productions, Inc. and the North Carolina Renaissance Faire of Raleigh, North Carolina in participation with the Guild of St. George Productions, LLC., and events producd by the Medieval Fantasies Company.

What do? -- Perform throughout the day to herald the arrival of the Royal Court and certain Main Events. H.M.Heralds performs on reproductions of Renaissance Trumpets (valveless). We can provide an educational musical presentation about the period instruments we play as part of our participation in a Faire's daily scheduled events.

Why do? – Many Renaissance Faires are dedicated to providing not only a wonderful entertaining day of fun and activities, but also present to the public an educational experience. Educators and Home Schooled alike find that attending and participating in Faires provides inspiration for their students, and partakes in Faire activities to enhance their educational outreach to their students.  H.M. Heralds brings to life the differences and evolution of the history of brass instruments compared to their modern counterparts.  Our presentation makes music history and appreciation of classical music a fun and exciting learning experience.

Where do? – We are always adding to our schedule of events.  We will again participate in the 2006 Season of both the Virginia and North Carolina Renaissance Faires.  The Faires will run from late March to the early June.

How do? -- I join. To join, one must simply have the skills of a trumpeter and the desire to provide perform in renaissance garb (i.e. costume -- don't worry, we can help), audition and attend rehearsals. This is a voluntary position and all expenses for travel and lodging are the responsibility of the members for this season. It is our goal to work towards a situation where many of these expenses can be reimbursed.  Period reproduction instruments are provided by the guild.

Who do? -- I contact Scott E. McDonald -- (703) 491-7989 (Northern Virginia)
