4 inch
F8 meniscus lens. The focal length of just the single surface concave side is
approximately 32 inch FL (spherical). I acquired several of them from a
former employer and made one into very nice 4” conventional newt. It produced
excellent images. It does require a mirror mount that imparts very little
stress on it. But a mirror cell that
has an adjustment which pulls on the back of the lens while supporting the
circumference of the lens/mirror might correct it to a parabola. Even without
that configuration the one I built functioned beautifully as an F/8
spherical. These are very high
quality optics. Not certain, but I believe the material is BK7.
I used 6.125” x
36” drain pipe from McMaster-Carr for the tube. And a 1.1-1.25” minor axis
secondary mirror is a good match for that mirror.
