Question: " I have never heard of Taiyin Qigong, nor my Qigong teacher. Is this a new form of Qigong?"

Answer: " No. Taiyin Qigong is a healing practice for women. Originating in the Kunlun Mountain region on the border of China, it was transmitted along the ancient Silk Route. Taiyin traces its roots back to the times of the early Persians and their priestess temple ritualistic dances. Later on, the woman Taoist master Sun Bei Er laid down the foundations of Taiyin Qigong in her canonical writings Songs of the Inner Elixir.

As to your Qigong teacher have not heard of such practice, well, the Taiyin Qigong has been kept in secret for a long time amongst the woman masters. For obvious reason, most of the woman masters did not establish public teaching center, they only taught their children.

Sifu Hon studied with various Taiyin masters and their lineage.  He feels that the Wild Goose Qigong, Swimming Dragon Qigong and Southern Indian Katana style of sacred dance are all part of this stream of Supreme Feminine practice.  It was extremely fortunate that he had the rare opportunities to study with the teachers from those lineage.  He integrated them into a unique form of Taiyin Qigong.

In classical Qigong text or alchemical text, there existed the writing of Sun Bei-er on the Cultivation of Taiyin Transformation, Taiyin Liaxian Gong. Please refer to the biography of Sun Bei-er, the immortal sisters.

Question: " How do I find a Taiyin teacher? Where are they?"

Answer: " There are several Taiyin masters living in China. They taught their Qigong under a different names. One particular Qigong master, Madame Yang was 101 years old . She was extremely vital and could out last her students in walking and talking. In the USA, our Dan Tao school in New York City and its affiliate center in Brooklyn are the only two places that we know of that offer Taiyin Qigong classes. Please remember that the training of a single Taiyin Qigong teacher takes 8 to 12 years. I know, very inefficient—not like the over the counter weekend master level certificate training in some body work disciplines that floats around in New Age Bazaar. A single Ginseng root of 3 inches long take 5 years to grow. We are in the process of planning to have a 3 years training programs for Taiyin teachers for our advance Taiyin students—who have already been studying for at least 3 to 5 years."

Question: " I live in India, how can I learn the Taiyin Qigong practice? Is there any video tape, books that can show me the Qigong? "

Answer: " Master Hon is trying to come up with an online introductory course on Qigong. It is still at the planning stage. But look around your area, Taiyin teacher could be teaching the classical Southern Indian Dance. Master Hon had studied the dance and found that indeed Taiyin Qigong has many similar common characteristic.

The book by Thomas Cleary: Immortal Sister is wonderful translation of the Taiyin classical work."

Question: " I studied at the XYZ Woman's Karate School. All my sensei are woman instructors. It is a school devoted to the sisterhood and no male students or even little boy were ever allow to enter the school. I find that disturbing for I enrolled my oldest daughter in the school and I can not bring along my 5 years old son to pick her sister up. They claim that they are teaching the Supreme Woman Warrior training and the place must remain completely pure. Are they Taiyin masters?"

Answer: " I know the XYZ Woman Karate School. I personally had the good fortune to meet some of the woman instructor, their black belt. They basically teach a form of Shodokan Karate which by the way they learned from a male instructor. And Shodokan style is deep upper body thrust and kicks. Which I considered very male oriented toward upper body strength. Just because a bunch of woman teaching you how to shoot a gun does not make target practice a feminine discipline.

Our Taiyin Qigong practice does not divide and fragment the two sex, woman and man. Though our Taiyin classes are taught by Master Hon's wife, Dan Jan. Master Hon as a man had transmitted his teaching directly to her. He had promised that he would also passed on the Taiyin to at least another male lineage holder.

For Alchemical reason, our Taiyin classes are open only to woman students but part of the Taiyin Qigong elements had been integrated into the whole Dan Tao school practices which include, Neigong Taiji Quan, Neidan Qigong, Dragon Qigong, Taiyin Qigong and Taoist meditation.

Whether those woman instructors are Taiyin masters or not I can not pass judgment. But from observing the way they moved, in my opinion, they moved through their kata, karate form, in very tight hip— rigid— upper body— male way. A genuine feminine way of motion is like a native girl from India carrying a vase of water on their head. She would sway gently and walk back from the river and not spill a drop."

Question: " Is there a feminine Martial Art style?"

Answer: " Yes. Bruce Lee original Kung Fu style, Wing Tsung, is very feminine. It was founded by the Ming Dynasty nun Ngn Mui. The form has no high kick and very narrow stances. It is one of the most effective Martial Art form that I have encountered."

Question: " I have been studying with this great Taiji master for many years. Though he is a man, I find that I have learned and gain tremendous insight and my health improve significantly. How come being a man teaching a woman, he could be so effective?"

Answer: " Many true Taiji masters that had truly reached the zenith of Taoist practice transcends the boundary of male and female. You are very lucky to find such a master. He is someone that I will follow as my model in being a teacher. As in the Buddhist sutra the male disciple of Buddha, Avalokestevera Bodhisattva out of deep compassion manifest himself in female form of Kuan Yin Bodhisattva. So many Chinese assume that Kuan Yin is female not knowing that the historical Kuan Yin is a man.

My motto to my male Dan Tao teachers. When teaching woman move like a woman. Very tough challenge for many of the men to experience the swaying of the hip in genuine fashions."

Question: " I heard that your classmate taught at the ZYX Woman's Karate School. is what they taught Taiyin?"

Answer: " No. that classmate was from a different Taiji teacher. I learned the Taiyin from a different Taiyin master."

Question: " Why do you start teaching the Taiyin Qigong as a man? Wouldn't it be easier for you to stick with the more masculine Qigong practice?"

Answer: " I am glad you ask that. I have three daughters. They are a blessing. For I could really experience the magic and uniqueness of the feminine development through being their father. I felt like a lump of honey cone slowly melting in their gentle luminosity. I saw how even as little girl, 2 to 3 years old, they are little nurturer. My daughters saved 6 baby squirrels that were abandoned by their mother.

In a broader sense, I realize that mess of political unrest, war, and inequality of our social fabric has its root in the patriarchal system of male aggression. Only when the society returns to humanity's in the beginning of time of matriarchy would true peace and prosperity descends on earth. That means more then just having a woman leader who could be aggressive like most man. It is when the society shifts from achievement to nourishment. From winning to cooperation. From competition to communication. That will take five hundred years or more. But I wanted to contribute a single stone toward such a movement. Having three daughters gave me new hope for heaven on earth."

Question: " Master Hon, can you tell us a bit about the repertoire of Taiyin Qigong practice?"

Answer: " The Taiyin Qigong practice is vast like the ocean. Here is just a few practices that I have been transmitted. Dan Tien Fung Hsien Gong— the Fragrance Emitting Qigong, Ji Ling Sing—Purple Spirited Star Qigong, Won Bei Shou Shu—Cloud Brush Luminous Script Qigong."

Question: " If I am truly dedicated to study with you or your Taiyin Teacher, how should I begin? Would you accept me?"

Answer: " I have never refused to accept a truly dedicated students. For a teacher to find such a student is a dream that comes true. But what I have observe is like some vacationer who starts out the hike with their designer boots, shirt and hat. Half way through, their enthusiasm evaporated, their feet hurts and they change their mind. I would caution such dedicated student that they should be prepare for a journey and arduous training of 4 to 5 years of complete dedication to the practice. If you are really ready to do so, then I would suggest that you first read Cleary's book. Read and study everything in this web site. And when the karma is ripe, a teacher will appear.

For I only accept students through verbal recommendation from people that I know. My school is very small and we get our students through words of mouth.

I have watched with sadness so many good enthusiastic students falls out when their own habits, ego are challenge. They want a teacher to make their life better not to utterly revolution and transform to the core of their being. There are plenty of teachers out there that will sell you such feel good, I am great you are great pills. But it saddens me to see after 10 to 20 years of such practice, those students just grew old and self satisfied with the woods that they gathered but have never started to ignite the huge pile of wood into fire.

For myself, the teachers that I am grateful to is the one who cuts me off my egotistical knees. It is through those teachers that every day, every minutes, seconds, the delusion of continuity ends.

If you find what has been written confusing. Well you just got a taste of the way of my teaching. It is utterly confusing and chaotic but some how also harmonious. My students name my teaching Chaotic Harmony. Ha! I am not so sure about the harmonious part but I am certain that it is truly chaotic. I have never repeated teaching the same class twice in the last 20 years."

Question:  Would practicing Taiyin Qigong heals me of my various health conditions: menopause, painful periods, headaches, depression...?

Answer:  No.  Qigong would not heal you.  Only you can heal yourself by selecting and using all the available tools of both Western Medical doctors and other holistic healing modality.  Think of your journey of healing like climbing the Himalayas.  You have to choose a diverse team of experts to help you to get to the summit of well being.  The more serious a sickness is, the more fundamental change of life style and outlook one must have in order to heal oneself.  Reading a book, or practicing any singular mystical pracitce would not do it.  Beware of crooks and con artist who would sell you the solution without qualifications.  The so called Chinese masters are not above the money hungry con game of giving you grand promises of healing.  Most of my teachers would never give a blanket statement of healing.
As one of my professor from the Chinese Medical Hospital in China told me.
" The patient has 50% contribution to the healing, the doctor only 25% and the rest, well that is up to the heaven."  I have never forgotten that.  No external practice will heal you.  You have to generate the will and power to wake up your own spontaneous healing force within your body.  But don't blame yourself if you get sick.  Sometime, sickness comes from factors that is outside of our control like genetic factor or environmental radiation.
