Healing with Herb Using simple Herbs, like Ginger or scallion, or even Cinnamon to help our body to maintain its health and wellness. Even Chocolate is a potent herb for its antioxidant properties. Sometime, we use herbs just for flavoring but they have medicine and healing properties that is far beyond just the taste of it. Of course then there is Chinese medicinal herbs like Ginseng which is an overly used product. Or Dong Kui, Angelica, which is prescribed for woman sickness especially related to the menstrual cycles. Be careful with Chinese herbs, it can be as potent as any western prescription drugs. For example the use of Ma Huang contains amphetamine compounds.

So you have a cold? Before you rush for the aspirin or any cold medicine, try the simple herb like ginger.

By making a simple ginger and honey, lemon tea, it will have the effect of soothing and decreasing the cold symptom. Simple common herbs like chocolate, cinnamon, and licorice are use daily in our life.

But how does those simple herbs work, and what are their properties?

Once you know the basic property of those herbs, they can come in very handy in a pinch. Of course, keep in mind that for any medical problem and sickness, you should seek out a medical doctor first.

GINGER:

The oil of the ginger have been found to strengthen the heart and promote secretion of saliva and gastric juice. In China, ginger also is known for its antibacterial effect on raw food, such as raw fish.

So next time in eating the Sushi in a Japanese restaurant, you will now understand why they serve the raw fish with the ginger, it is to stimulate your appetite as well as to serve to kill some of the bacteria in raw fish.

Recipes for using Ginger
 

Hon's Brew: Ginger tea. 5 slice of Ginger

1 lemon

3 table spoon of Honey or to taste

1 Cup of hot water

Feeling a little run down, and over ate after the holiday. Put the sliced raw ginger and the rest of the ingredient in the cup with hot water, let it soak for a minute then drink it slowly. You will notice that your energy and the over stuffed feeling will slowly evaporate. Not only does the Hon’s Brew is good for you, it tastes great. (if you can not tolerate sugar, or honey, you can leave out the honey and drink the brew just with ginger and lemon. But it will taste a bit plain.)
