Maryland Community Kitchen

The Maryland Community Kitchen program offer free meals to homebound AIDS patients and their dependent children. Their meals are prepared at Waverly Presbyterian Church on Old York Road and delivered by volunteers. Meals are especially designed to combat the wasting effects of malnutrition associated with AIDS. The program also hosts parties with food and celebration during holiday seasons and attempts to bring hope during those times.

Maryland Community Kitchen now also has been expanded to include

  • the preparation of snacks for schoolchildren in the Police Athletic League (PAL) after school programs
  • transportation and training for HIV positive people to obtain jobs

CUCC Involvement: CUCC volunteers prepare and wrap high calorie desserts (cookies, brownies, cupcakes, etc. -- with no nuts) in their own homes, and bring them to Sunday Worship once a month. From there they are distributed with the meals in Howard County and surrounding areas.
