SWING DANCER VIDEO SERIES




This series of tapes is designed to get you started dancing West Coast Swing. Based on Craig Hutchinson's popular reference manual, Swing Dancer, the series takes you from a historical perspective through beginning basics to more advanced moves and rhythm breaks. Ably assisted by Lucy Renzi, Hutch gives you a foundation for continuing to learn and enjoy the classic American Swing dance.




GETTING STARTED, AN INTRODUCTION TO WEST COAST SWING (SDV911014, Length: 104 Minutes). While commenting on the colorful history of Swing dance in America, Hutch demonstrates the Lindy Hop, Jitterbug, Be Bop, Jive, Carolina Shag, and various styles of the Hustle. Skippy Blair's Universal Unit System is used to explain how Rhythm Breaks are related to the beats of music. Swing Dancer technique for Beneaths, Coupling, and Lead & follow in West Coast Swing is also included. WARNING: this video is not intended to teach you how to Swing dance! The purpose of this video is to help lay the groundwork for Swing dancing and is intended to supplement the other video tapes on West Coast Swing in the Swing Dancer Video Series.




WEST COAST SWING LEVEL 1 (SDV911005, Length: 89 Minutes). Hutch presents the Swing Dancer West Coast Swing Level 1 Figures. This video tape to gets you started on the Push, Beneath Pass, Under Pass, Pass, and Closed Whip figures. The Sailor rhythm break is used. Figure variations in the Pass include Pivots Right, Pivots Left, and Tuck Right. Figure variations in the Closed Whip include Under Left and Under Right. The figures include moving between Natural Open and Closed dance positions.




WEST COAST SWING RHYTHM BREAKS LEVEL 1 PART 1 (SDV911006, Length: 113 minutes.) Hutch introduces you to Rhythm Breaks. Add variety to your moves with Shuffles, Point, and Rock Rhythm Breaks for use in Pushes, Passes, and Whips. The Kick:Figure Fore and Cross Travel are included for use in Push moves, and the Toe Heel Swivel and Swivel Cross are included for use in Break moves.




WEST COAST SWING RHYTHM BREAKS LEVEL 1 PART 2 (SDV911012, Length: 91 Minutes). Hutch introduces you to more Rhythm Breaks. Add variety to your moves with a Sailor Coupe Right, Hip Slip, Ronde Toe Stab, and Twinkle Away for use in Pushes, Passes, and Whips. The Kick:Figure Fore, Point:Swivel, Pin Run:Pinwheel, Kick:Ronde:Skips, and Kick:Snap Kick are included for use in Push moves, and the Shuffle Swivel is included for use in Break moves.




FOLLOWER'S TURNS FOR WEST COAST SWING (SDV910928, Length 81 Minutes). Hutch presents the Follower's Turns for West Coast Swing. This includes for Passes: Pivots Left, Tuck Chasse Right, Pivots Right, and Swivot Pivots Right; for Closed Whips: Pivots Left, Swivel Left, Pivots Right, and Swivot Pivot Right; and for Tandem Whips: Pivots Left, Swivot Left, Pivots Right, and Swivot Right. A Together rhythm break is used on right turns and a Drag rhythm break is used on Left Turns. Lucy Renzi demonstrates the turns. (She also sneaks in Pivot and Spin breaks and a Figure Four:Cross Lunge.)
